I fixed an MS wireless mouse that was not responding by pressing the button on the receiver while it was connected to a USB port & then pressing the button on the mouse. Worked fine after that.

Try downloading the latest drivers from microsoft. Sometimes the older generic driver installs but does not enable the functions. Hope this helps.

Just to restate what others have
1. there's a black momentary button on the "dongle" that you insert into the USB port
2. there's another white tiny button on the bottom of the mouse.
Not sure what sequence worked, tried, 'em all, mouse NOW works again !!

Just like Roy said:
Control panel>system and security>system>device manager.
Windows 7 often recognize the mouse as "HID compliant consumer control device". click the second one (the first one is usually your touch-pad" and update the driver.
another work around is try to change the usb port.
finally you can try to delete the usb ports and refresh hardware changes to reinstall them.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
