Hit the bottom of the camera on a hard surface. Needs to be a good whack. Then turn it on again.

My camera comes on and then the lens retract and go back into the camera. The camera never fully comes on. The batteries are fully charged and there is plenty of memory. Please help.

Could be one of the ribbon cables is loose. If you can open the camera and reseat all the ribbon cables. If the lens makes an ugly grinding noise the gears to the lens are chewed up. You can go to esupport.sony.com for a flat rate repair quote. Hope this helps.

Lens error

Lens probably does not extend or retract because of debris or misaligned gear box. The lens can many times be repaired without having to replace it. Try to return to manufacturer. If you're out of warranty, there are third party place that fix them such as camera lens repairs. There are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the part is usually available on ebay.

Camera focus error

there is a small logic circuit that controls the motor that retracts the lens and a sensor that tells it the lens is retracted, it is a lens position sensor, one of these two components is most likely defective, the thing is there are no consumer service info provided by panasonic, they will not sell you parts either, the camera is a mystery to take apart and repair without the tech manual which u can't get, so u see the delima here, u must either have this camera fixed by a panasonic repair station or see if it qualifies for a upgrade exchange program for a newer model.

Sony Powershot G9 - Lens won't retract

When the lens will not retract and camera is not functional (no picture on display, and does not shoot) , and you already tried replacing batteries with a new fresh set (ensure please) , and then restarting camera with no memory card inside, then camera is faulty.

Try an easy fix by pushing gently the lens (do not force them, just help them) while you turn off camera at same time. Try also switching the mode selector.

If still no luck , then the camera must be disassembled to fix the problem.

Possible reasons are :

  • Faulty lens mechanism or jammed lens (camera usually turns off by itself in this case)
  • Main board faulty.
  • Ribbon cable to main board broken or connector defective.
  • If there is no power at all it is the connector from batteries to main board, this is also a ribbon cable.

If the camera is less than one year old will be replaced by manufacturer.

If your warranty is expired you can get an estimate for repair from manufacturer, or from a third party like Advance Camera here :Advance Camera Repair you can book the repair online.

I dropped my camera and the camera says it has a lens error. The lens will also not retract back into the camera.

Something like that has to be repaired at the factory. Check with the manufacturer; repair fee might be reasonable. For example, Canon used to have a $99 flat-fee repair for their point-and-shoot cameras, which isn't too bad if your camera was worth $300.

While turning in off softely press the lense in and out a couple of times. The lense would retract. If not fully, but most of the way, push the lense a little harder in until completely retract. If you turn it on, I should work fine. The reason the lense does not retract is most likely some dust in there somewhere. If it did not help, you would have to open the lense and clean it and close the lense.

I hope it helps,
