My panasonic kx-fl501 fax message says please wait and the keys don't work

I realize this thread is old, but I just encountered the same problem with my Panasonic KX-FL501. Pressing #9000* does not work, as none of the key pads are responding. When I lift the receiver I get a tone. But the keys don't respond when I dial. Display shows "please wait"..... I've been waiting for hours.

Hi my hp 640 will not answer a fax call, but will answer only if we pick up the hand set.

Issue When the all-in-one product is sharing a phone line with voice calls, some calls are interrupted by fax tones. Follow the steps below to solve the problem.Step one: Check the Rings to Answer setting If Auto Answer is enabled, the HP fax product will answer the phone line when the number of rings reaches the number of rings specified in the Rings-to-Answer setting. When voice calls will be received on the same phone line as faxes, set to rings-to-answer to 6. If you do not want the fax to answer automatically, either turn off Auto Answer from the front panel and receive faxes manually (this may result in lost faxes) or subscribe to a distinctive ring service from the phone company (if available). Refer to the Answering faxes manually section below to learn how to answer faxes manually or refer to the Using distinctive ringing section below for more information about using distinctive ringing. The Rings-to-answer setting for the HP Officejet 500 and 600 series products can only be checked or set using the all-in-one software on the computer. After static shock, keypad on fax machine is not working...everything else ok

Most office machines are properly grounded and don't suffer from static problems as severe as this. The machine is not repairable. Before you replace the machine, make sure that your electrical outlets are properly grounded. Then buy a line conditioner that will protect against this.
