Question about Refrigerators

I need to troubleshoot icemaker in Frigidaire FRS24WRA. We got it used and it has not worked. Where do I begin? I took the cover off and it cycles. Don't know if it switches open for water fill or not. Where is that switch/solenoid/valve located?

The loop under the cube tray gets warm/hot during the cycle. Is this a normal move to release the frozen cubes?

Here's how ice makers work:

  • First, the ice maker signals the water-fill valve to open and flow into the ice maker tray the amount of water specified by the internal motor and switch.

  • When the water tray thermostat senses that the tray has reached a certain temperature, it signals the ice maker to begin ejecting the cubes, as follows.

  • When the wire goes all the way back down, the ice maker refills with water and repeats the process.

  • The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

The ice maker is producing ice poorly When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

Hi friend, thanks for your post!
I understand that your icemaker on your Frigidaire refrigerator is not getting water to the icemaker. It sounds like you could have an issue within the valve or solenoid. I would recommend having a professional come out to properly diagnose your appliance and repair it. -Matt

My Frigidaire model Frs26zgg side-by-side doesn't deliver water to the ice maker. What is the likely faulty component?

Note that the temperature in the freezer must be below 10 degrees F for the icemaker to cycle. The icemaker line is the smaller line (1/4") located in the back of the machine that runs from the valve to the filll tube. To test the valve and icemaker you have to manually advance the ice maker and wait for it to call for water with the 1/4" line disconnected from the valve. You can do this by getting a jumper wire, removing the cover of icemaker, which you jsut grab and pull off, and using the jumper wire insert one end of the wire into the cirle marked "M" and the other in the cicle marked "N". Leave there until you hear a click and sometimes see a little spark behind the modular head wheel. Also if you see ice in the maker that hasn't dumper and the teeth of the icemaker are facing any direction other than two o clock position, the icemaker is bad. Before doing any of the above though check the fill tube to be sure the no ice is blocking water from coming in.

Ice maker has stopped working

IT is either your inlet valve which is cheaper than replacing the icemaker, when you replace it(located behind panel on back of fridge) make sure you do not have ice build-up in the water tube behind icemaker. If that does not work than you will have to replace icemaker. If you take a flathead screwdriver and pop the cover off of your icemaker you will either have a screw that you can manually turn to test the icemaker to see if it is working. There is one you can do this with, the other one you would need an icemaker tester that most tech's have. Good luck!

Frigidaire FRS24ZRHW0 Icemaker/Water Dispenser problem

See if your water solenoid might be the problem. Your water supply line from the house will connect into a solenoid. I just recently solved a problem for someone on this site who had a solenoid that was sticking. Try tapping the solenoid gently to get it to activate or take it apart and depending on what type it is, manually move the spring loaded plunger a few times.

Hope this helps

This frigidaire (side by side) only blows warm air on both sides

Good day,
First, I would unplug the machine, and then unplug the ice maker. Wait 20 minutes and plug in refrigerator. See if it cools without the ice maker in the equation.
Sounds more like starting components on the compressor, or a compressor starting to fail.
Post back with results.
Thank you.

Icemaker continues to run water for several minutes

Change your icemaker module. It is getting stuck in the fill position. They are about 50 dollars or so and are held on with 3 screws normally.

My ice maker won't make ice.I have a Frigidaire FRS26H5ASB5. Can you tell me what I can do?

I had the same problem with my ice maker.
I took it apart and cleaned the three switches inside the icemaker
The switches are not a high enough amp rating so they burn the contacts. Keep in mine cleaning is temp fix.
I did mine about 4 months ago and still working.
I have new switches now that I will be installing as soon as it quits again. About $9.00 for new switches and about $130.00 for a new Icemaker!

I hope this helps.

Ice maker is leaking small amounts of water.

Is the amount of water to much for the tray size , you can adjust it with the small screw behind the icemaker cover . is the line entering the back of the icemaker jammed up to far causing it to spray ? Or is the icemaker or refrigerator not level
