Yes I have the same problem, it wants to shut off everytime i turn it on. the only way to get it to come back on is to take the batteries out and reboot. I don't want to have to do this everytime. Whenever I try to shut down it never shuts down quite right. Then when want to use it, the unit is always locked on the shut down screen. I can never get out of this page unless I completely reset it by taking the batteries out. Very annoying.

Bad news. This is a motherboard component failure. Return it to the manufacturer or visit http://www.gelb.com .. they are selling Heavily Discounted Triton GPS units.

This is possibly an issue with the software the gps uses to work. You could try doing a Firmware update by connecting it to a computer and going to the Magellan website to access the update.

This is a new one for me and we have fixed hundreds of Triton 400 units. The most likely culprit is corrupt software in the internal memory. Seek a repair center like the Jungle Ghost at
http://www.jungleghost.com/repair_service.shtml If the unit is in warranty .. return it to Magellan
This problem is caused by a corrupted software file on the internal memory. The chip has to be reflashed. If under warranty return the unit to Magellan.
OK .. you could have many possible causes. The most likely is that the magellan drivers are not installed on your computer. If you installed Vantage Point you will find them under the c:\magellan drivers folder.
Now without Vantage Point being on just connect the GPS to the computer and turn it on. Then open up the device manager on your computer and you will see a PORT COM(number). Click on the properties and see if the device driver is enabled and working.
If it is not.. then uninstall the present driver and reinstall from your computer by pointing to the c:\magellan drivers folder.
Jaime, What happened here is that somehow you copied files from a firmware upgrade that was different than the upgrade you have on the machine originally and these mixed up files are causing the INTERNAL ERROR.
Unless your are a software expert you will not be able to recover your GPS. There are some solutions which recommend that you turn the unit into the development mode and then copy the firmware version to the GPS. But people who recommend this method also warn you that you could turn your unit into a "BRICK".
So either return the unit to Magellan for an exchange or go to your browser and look up the jungle ghost repair center.
