Question about Philips MP3 & Digital Media Players

3 Answers

HI - i have a MP3 player that i was very happily using until one day it only flashed on the gogear screen - ie it does that on charge to a main feed. I tried to reset it and I also tried to fix it with the troubleshooting techiques, but still can't get past that screen to any other menu. I purchased it in July at Singapore Airport and live in New Zealand and now philips tell me that there is no warrenty service in NZ because of that. :-( I would appreciate ANY advice you may have. thanks VERY much :-) Jane Riley

Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Disconnect the player from the PC,and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + buttonon the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding inthe volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 secondsuntil a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover yourdevice if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player.Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off theplayer, so they will have to be reloaded.

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Managerinstalled (the latest is the version from the Philips website), thenclicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "Thefirmware on your device is already up to date."

Its the error of the internal circuit of the device.open it and clean it internally for any moisture or dust collected in the internal area of the circuit.as u can open because its not in any kind of warranty but just take care it does not get damaged.

Hi,

Please follow the below steps and check if that resolves the issue:

  1. Press down on and hold the "Power" button on your Philips GoGear MP3 player.
  2. Press down on and hold the "Volume Up" button on your Philips GoGear MP3 player. Continue to hold both of these buttons down for three consecutive seconds. The MP3 player will turn itself off.
  3. Press and hold "Power" until your Philips GoGear MP3 player turns itself back on. Your GoGear will no longer be frozen and you can use it as normal.
If you require further assistance then please revert back.

KEEPS CUTTING OFF

It doesn;t have a virus. She plugged it into a computer that is running Windows Media Player 11, and now the player is toast. WMP 11 replaces a key system file in GoGear HDD models and some early SA models - like SA178.

Connect your mp3 player to the computer.
Open the Philips Device Manager
Run the Repair function.
If the Device Manager does not recognize the player, connect the player to the computer (while the player is in the OFF position) while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the vol + button for 5-15 seconds until a window pops up on the computer screen that says Found New Hardware Wizard. Follow the directions and it will lead you to do a Repair in the Philips Device Manager.

If this strategy doesn't work, your player is screwed. Call Philips and find out how to get an in-warranty replacement (or take it back to the store).

Go Gear Trouble

Try this:
Make sure the GoGear is disconnected from the computer
Turn the goGear off
Hold in the volume + button
Reconnect the goGear to the computer while holding in the volume + button
Continue holding the volume + button for 20-30 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" window pops up

If this does not work, the GoGear is toast, call 1-888-PHILIPS and see if you are still in warranty

Gogear

Battery is too low for player to charge. There is a firmware fix for this at www.p4c.philips.com

Fix cannot be applied until player is working again.

If you know someone who has the same player, put their battery in your unit to power up and apply firmware update to fix problem. Then swap batteries back again

Another way to get the player working is to remove the side panel to disconnect battery. Plug in the mains charger and reconnect the battery. You may need to do this several times before the player springs into life.
If this doesn't work try disconnecting the charger and battery alternately and wait 5 secs between attempts.

Philips mp3 player sa6045

This player shows the "Do not disconnect" message when it is doing something critical such as transferring tracks or updating firmware, which could corrupt the player if disconnected part way through.

The player shows the "OK to disconnect" when it is idle. As the message says, it's ok to disconnect, as the player will not corrupt if disconnected when it is idle.

These messages mean that the player does not need the "Safe to remove" procedure.

It is ok to disconnect part way through charging. Also the player will condition the battery once it is fully charged, so it's ok to leave it charging.

Occassionally batteries can "memorise" when constantly disconnect and reconnected without fully charging and discharging. To help prevent this, fully discharge the player (leave on until dead) and fully charge and condition (leave charging for about 12 hours) every couple of weeks or so.
