I have the same problem--runs in reverse but not when I feed paper. I'm guessing the sensor is broken or the switch is.

I have only had this DS1 Fellowes shredder for a couple months. It gets only very light use.

Well today it had decided only to run in reverse.

The Fellowes website is very vague about the problem and offered basically no solution.
I am very unhappy about this.

I dumped my old shredder (Also about a 100 bucks worth) for this defect.

I completely disassembled this unit. Cleaned it thoroughly. Made sure all wires were firmly connected. Result: Just have to accept the fact that the switch on the PC Board wore out. Reverse is used far less than forward on the switch which is why it still functions. This unit is warranteed for 5 years. I have had it for six. Time to go shredder shopping.

That is a defective on or off/rev switch or your P.C. board is defective. In either case, your shredder will require a service call

I HAD the same problem. I hope that my solution helps you.
My problem was a poor solder connection to the auto/off/rev switch on the switch circuit board. I suggest that you resolder all eight connections to the switch on the switch circuit board. Also, make sure that the connections to the auto wires (brown, gray, white, orange) on the switch circuit board are good.
Good luck...

My shredder suddenly stopped. It only works in reverse. I cleaned the "eye" but still doesn't work.

Same problem with Model DS-1. I have now purchsed two of this model and each one failed in the exact same manner, within 6 months of light home use. ** Both failed almost immediately after performing the recommended lubrication process from Fellows.

One eventually started to work again after spending 1 week in the back of my car, I guess it just needed to be jostled a bit....

runs only on reverse

I have the same problem and tested the paper sensor in the feed chute and determined that it is defective. I short circuited the red and gray wires leading to the sensor and it makes the shredder think that there is paper in the chute. Can I simply order a replacement sensor and install it myself or do I have to have a service tech come and do it?
