Question about RCA RTD258 System
Just received this home theater system as a xmas gift and upon loading discs it keeps reading no disc. Actually tried to take top off and clean lens to no avail. Any other suggestions aside from returning it? Thanks in advance!

SOURCE: Disc Tray Won't Open
I have contacted Venturer Electronics Inc. (which have recently purchased RCA); they are in Toronto, Ontario. They suggested to perform a Manufacturer Reset (as follows); and if it works; system should power up [this means there was a glitch in the software]...(this usually happens when system is plugged into a power bar or surge protector) if not, contact them @ 1-800-721-4007. They honor the manufacturer's (RCA) 1 year warranty... with receipt.
To reset Unit:
Unplug Unit from AC power (other wires can stay connected)
Press the On/Standby button in front of Unit 15 times
Wait 30 minutes
Replug Unit to AC power
Press the On/Standby button to power up unit
Wait couple of minutes for unit to do its thing
**If unit works properly, then ensure not to plug unit into power bar or surge protector, keep plugged into wall.
**If unit will not power up properly, contact them for further instructions.
Hope this is helpful....
My Unit powered up wonderfully and is currenlty working like a charm.

SOURCE: Reads all as BAD DISC
my friend do you try to adjust the 2 potentiometer behind the dvd lens.?
there is 2 potentiometer and they can maybe be the problem.
but you have to be very delicated. and move only by milimeters. becouse if you move a lot maybe the unit no read more.
if you need help and you fell ready to do that ask to me.

My identical system has exactly the same problem as the one described by dipaola, above. When I insert a DVD, the DVD carriage pops back open after a few seconds. In fact, mine won't stay closed even without a DVD in it, as long as the system is set to play a DVD. I'd like an answer to the big Q - Is there anything I can do about this, or should I just find another DVD player to hook into the system?
