I am looking into getting the Uniden Bearcat BC60XLT1 scanner Is this scanner capable of trunking? I guess my local police dept uses trunking freq.s
This scanner does not do the 800 Mhz trunk tracking that you are looking for. A synopsis and link to the manual can be found below:
Typically, a trunk tracking capable radio will cost in excess of a couple hundred dollars - significantly more depending on digital capabilities.
Your first step should be determining which services (public safety, public works, ambulance, taxi, military, ham, etc.) you're interested in monitoring. Next, list the communities in your area and search for the frequencies they use. You can find this by googling the Town,State Scanner Frequency like this:
Boston, MA scanner frequencies
Broaden your scope by substituting your county for the Town or simply search on your state. You should find links to entire directories of listings, and groups of people interested in scanner monitoring. Talk with those people or store sales personnel about a particular scanner's suitability to monitoring a certain type of service, frequency, mode, etc.
Once you've collected this info, do some research on equipment and see what fits in your budget. Ask questions in user groups for scanning and radios, too.
I hope this helps - good luck!
