Both monitors must be plugged in when the computer is started for the second monitor to be detected, and you must configure the second monitor once the computer has started
In windows XP: control panel -> display -> settings tab -> select second display -> check "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" -> click apply
In windows vista/7: control panel -> adjust screen resolution -> select second display and then under "multiple displays" select "Extend desktop to this display"
First make sure the power cord is plugged in both ends (in the wall and in the monitor). When the computer is turned on, it should run a power on-self test and then beep. The monitor light should be green and then the Windows splash screen will display. If your computer starts up but the video fails, then the monitor light will turn yellow. A monitor light that just flickers and goes off is probably an indication that the monitor has failed. I usually try to hook up another monitor (borrow it from a friend) just to be sure that the computer is working.
you might have to change the screen resolution on your "other" computer because it might no be a valid resolution for your monitor. Although you should see the screens when it boots up. You may also want to check if your monitor has an input button and select a different input. Do other monitors work on your "other" computer?
check the speak rail, the emachine speakers need a amplifier, there should have a power supply plug, that you need to plug it in.
if not, call up the place you brought the machine and ask them, where is the amplifier plug.
