Will a loose gas cap set off the map sensor

My SES light keeps coming on and showing the map sensor - have replaced it twice. Was wondering if my loose gas cap might have something to do with it ???

Loose gas cap is an evaporative system leak code, when you handle a MAP sensor they are delicate, if it gets banged or dropped it will be no good, be sure to handle with care. how is the PCV valve? vacuum lines?

SOURCE: Check engine light on

Check engine light has **** to do with any of what you listed. It only relates to pressures and sensors. Retorque your throttle body, check resistance on your sensors and if that doesn't work change the map sensor. They're bad on these vehicles

sounds like you need a shop to inject smoke in your evap system to find the leak

SOURCE: Similar Problem: Van bogs down when you step on the gas

2 simple causes for your symptoms would be water in the fuel tank (pour drygas into the tank to alleviate this problem) or a leak in the exhaust system. If both items don't apply, check for any vacuum leaks under the hood. You've isolated the problem to either vacuum leaks or a fuel problem. Hopefully, this will give you a general area to look and solve your problem. Best of luck.

there is a large evaporative leak. keep away form ottozoo, they dont have the brain power to actually diagnose a light bulb., their job is to sell parts., if they sell you the wrong parts tough.Take it to a qualified repair shop that does a lot of GM work or the dealer.

Fuel cap sensor 2004 trailblazer ls ex

Make sure you tighten your gas cap when refueling, until it clicks a minimum of 3 - 5 times. If this does not turn off the light, have it cleared at an auto center, & replace the defective fuel cap. They use an intricate system to equalize air pressure in the tank, to allow gas flow, wthout allowing evaporation of the gas. (Green Friendly) & EPA rules. Thew system is pressurized, If cap defective,, it will set the code.

I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. I have to codes coming up P0106 and P0496. What does that mean and how can I fix it?

P0106 is basically a leak somewhere in the intake manifold, could be vaccum hoses that are loose or cracking, or a bad MAP sensor which is very simple to change, about 30 seconds.

P0496- is an EVAP problem, could be as simple as a gas cap that is loose or not sealing properly. Turn the cap several clicks then clear the code out, see if this takes car of this problem. If not, look at your Canister Vent Valve, about $30, or the Canister Purge Solenoid, about $30 also.

I've personally had both these codes also, mine ended up being a bad MAP sensor. P0496 showed up when my significant other didn't put the gas cap on correctly or tight.

Check engine light comes on have had it in twice for a fix/they say its the gas cap well the first time they cleaned the old cap and re set the computer.the second time they replace the cap and re set the...

Well, I would check the filler neck connections and the condition of the filler neck. If this is leaking there, or the tank is leaking, the loose gas cap code will show up.

Keep taking it back to the original shop until the problem is fixed. Have faith.

Service engine soon light stays on. The gas cap is very hard to take off and put on

The SES light will come on with a missing or defective gas cap. Try getting a new gas cap and installing to fix the problem.

Otherwise, have the SES light scanned to see what other problem may exist.

Hope this helps.

My gmc envoy idles rough and the ses light pop on with a p015

See or call your local auto parts store such as AutoZone or O'Reillys for the trouble code definition. Also, make sure your gas cap is really secure, and I mean tight.

SES light (again!)

P0440 code is EVAP control system problem. This has to do with emissions from the carbon can, fuel tank and general leaks that come from fuel evaporation. Anywhere gas fumes can escape the systerm. This code is very common and can be caused by a simple fuel cap being loose or leaking. Check the fuel cap and reset the coputer. If the SES light comes back on there could be a problem with some of the systerm controls. ie vent valve, purge valveand canister. And /or vac leaks.

Light on my dashboard

ford taurus's are well known for this. the seal on the gas cap goes bad. before you replace the gas cap make sure when you close the gas cap you are turning it at least 5 clicks. if light stays on get a new gas cap. they are easy to install all you need to do is remove the gas cap.remove the gas cap strap. put ******** the new cap, close cap and turn 5 clicks. not clicking 5 time can set a p400 or p401 evap code causing the check enging /ses light to come on.

Ser.eng.soon flashes code 34 MAP sensor

A code 34 calls attention to the MAF sensor, not a MAP sensor. Try changing that out, first. You might also be having problems with your ignition control module.
