SOURCE: Other Region codes for Samsung DVD 1080PK

Region code hack posted by anindo_roy, January 09 2009:
I bought a Samsung DVD player 1080PK in Bangalore recently (Jan 2009) and initially it was coded only for region 5 (India). I went through the following steps (which were told to me by a Samsung technician) to make it region free. This steps match closely to the one posed by another viewer so I have retained the same format.
1) Turn on the player with no disc in the tray
2) Press the Open/Close button to open the tray
3) Press the info button, the firmware version shows up
4) After the version info disappears, close the tray again by pressing the Open/Close button
5) At this point, it will show "no disc" at the top. Press the Info button again, and this will disappear.
6) Locate the Repeat A-B button on the remote, which in my case was ‘9’
6) Now type the code that applies for your region (R5 (India) is 53814) followed by 9 (Repeat A-B button) and then press the Enter button. So enter 538149 and then Enter. A last few digits ‘4’ and '9' may briefly show up at the top left corner.
8) Power off the player, and turn it on again. You'll have a multi region player
Region Code for the 1080PK hack:
R1 - 29334
R2 - 57538
R3 - 56732
R4 - 76884
R5 - 53814
R6 - 24462
This worked for me after a couple of tries.

Hi i have a lg bg550 blueray dvd and i have just got a region1 disc is there a unlocking code for this model so i can play region1 and region 2 discs regards **** towner

Could not locate this model but this may help:

Power up the Player, press pause;
Type in 314159 on your Remote Control's Keypad;
This should bring up the Region Selection Screen;
Select the Region (1-6) that you wish to view on your Remote Control's Keypad, sit back, and enjoy ;-)

Two important features with this player.

Firstly, in addition to the first hack listed above, instead of choosing a Region 1 through 6, you can choose to set it Region 0, or region free. This means you will not need to change it every time you put in a disc of differing regions.

Also, if your TV is not capable of both NTSC and PAL playback, you can adjust the format of the DVD player signal by flicking the System Select switch on the rear of the player. Without changing this, the region free hacks listed above may not display correctly if you are using an older TV

To enable VCD, it works for this model as other LG players:

1. Power on the player with no disc in the drive.
2. Press Pause on the remote control.
3. Using the remote control, key in the following: 1, 4, 7, 2 (the
characters 01 47 should appear on the display) [If your player is a non UK
model, this number will probably be different - don't worry]
4. Press the UP arrow three times (the characters 04 Fd should appear on the
[This number may be different depending on the configuration of your
specific model - don't worry]
5. Press Program, 6, Program, 5 (the characters 04 FE should now be
6. Press Enter (the display should flash briefly).
7. Press Return.
8. Power the player off and then back on.
9. Play a VCD!

I have a LG 50 LCD TV Model: 50LN5700-UH that has a black screen. There are a couple of things I have tested and replaced. First off there is audio but just a black screen. I turned off the lights and looked for signs of back lights. When I did this there were no visible signs of lights. In addition, I did the flashlight test. Which showed visible signs of lettering on the screen with the flashlight. Which if I understand correctly it may determine that the T-Con board is functional. I ordered additional LCD's from Shop Jimmy and replaced the bad sticks. About half were replaced. I reassembled the TV and I am still getting no video, but I still have audio. However, this time all the LCD's are functioning so now the screen is still more grey than black because of the working LCD's I replaced. What voltages and at what points should I be testing to narrow down the problem, or what other problem-solving technique should I be testing? One other thing I should mention is there no visible signs of swollen capacitors or any signs of burn marks. I am 99% sure I connected all of the cabling up correctly, not 100% since this was my first attempt but I am a little less confident I put the filters in the correct way. I had the TV disassembled while I was waiting on the LCD's to ship and when I re-assembled I was less confident if I picked up all 3 or 4 filters and set them down, or if I make have flipped the filters to keep the circuit board on the front cover from being damaged. Hope that make since.
