Hp dv7-4165dx caps lock blinking, not powering up

I had the same problem with my HP DV7-4165DX. Here is the solution, although it may sound crazy.
1. Lift open the screen.
2. Take a towel and wrap it around the base of the laptop so no air can escape from the fan.
3. Turn on the laptop and let it get hot for 15-30 minutes.
4. Turn off the laptop.
5. Remove towel and power it back on. The laptop should boot up and go into Windows. This is a temporary fix - once you power it down and let it cool off, it will not turn back on and you will have to repeat the process.
6. While in Windows, you need to update the BIOS to "2013-02-26 , VersionF.29, 4.16M" Here is the link to the application:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp61001-61500/sp61028.exe

7. Run the executable file.
8. The BIOS will ask you to shutdown.
9. When you power the computer back on it will run a program to update the BIOS.

Now, I tried this last night. I turned the computer off before I went to bed and it was cold in the morning. I hit the power button and it started right up. I shut it down and ten minutes later tried it again - it started right up. Hopefully you will have the same success I did.

I have hp 530 laptop .but my brother change poweron password in my laptop .he forgot the password..can i solve this problem?

You need to remove the access panel on the back of the laptop, locate the jumper labeled E49 and remove from positions 1 and 2 and put it on 2 only. Replace the cover and boot up, this should get you past the password.

Please leave feedback if you find this helpful. Thanks.

try reseating the memory cards in the notebook if the lights come on but no display usually memory cards have been knocked loose.
that is one defect that they have is memory cards come loose if the laptop has been jarred from being in a car getting bounced around in the seat etc.
the memory cards control a portion of the video and if the memory cards lose connection you loose video.

Hi Alan,

From your description I understand that the cursor jumps intermittently. This happens when the sensitivity of the touchpad is more or high. Try lowering the touchpad sensitivity.

Here are the steps:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Double-click Mouse.
4. Click Device Settings tab in the Mouse Properties window.
5. Click Settings Button to launch Touchpad settings.
6. Go to Configuring Sensitivity on the left side menu.
7. Move the slider towards left to decrease the sensitivity.
8. Also, click on PalmCheck on the left side and move the slider towards maximum.
9. Click Apply. Click ok
You can try reinstalling the touchpad driver from the below links:

Speakers aren't producing sound - did I maybe press a button by accident that shut it off? This laptop is not even two mths old.

Have a look at the F numbers along the top of your laptop.

There might be something there which kind of looks like a speaker.

Some laptops have a mute / unmute button along there and some have a volume control up and down.

You'll notice that the symbols are in blue, this means that you need to press the blue FN key (bottom row of keyboard, same line as the spacebar) and the coresponding function key at the same time to perforn that action..

Ive seen lots of people accidently turn things off this way, the main one being their wireless card.

When i turn on my laptop it runs for 1 min then it turns off

It kind of sounds as if the laptop might be overheating. You can use a can of air to try to clear out the cooling system by blowing into the exhaust outlet towards the fan. You should hold the fan with a paper clip or something so it does not spin. Make sure computer is shut off, and battery removed when you do this.

Hope u can help

If you just purchased the laptop, it should still be under the 1 year limited warranty. That kind of a hardware issue definitely qualifies. I would contact HP pronto. You can reach HP TotalCare at 1-800-474-6836.

If you purchased the laptop from a friend, or something, it may be out of the limited warranty period. If that's the case please let me know.
