Question about Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 Notebook

1 Answer

Computer crash i have a satellie toshiba laptop. I saw a message this mornign to install windows vista service pack, I started installing but at the end of the 3rd stage configuration, a scanning operation started and then the scannign got stuck at a particular file named ox somehting. I powered off manually and rebooted , launch repair was an option or start windows normally; I chose launch repair, but to no avail. Systems restore was an option and it started saying it was repairing but it just continued 'repairing' for hrs. I powered off and booted in safe mode but it just brought me back to launch repair. How should I proceed?

My suggestion is to boot using the disk that came with the computer and try to restore the installation or start over with a fresh install.

Toshiba often puts the recovery data on the D drive (may be hidden) on your laptop. If so, you should be able to reload. It will do a format and you will lose everything. Hope you have a good backup - like Carbonite!

Hold down the f8 key while booting up.This will put it in safe mode.

once there, try setting the restore point to last known good configuration.

This should bring you back to before the update.

Vista service pack 2 is very large and can take awhile to install.

Try updating the service pack again. After you get running.

Using another computer online, go to the Toshiba website and download the drivers to a usb flash drive. Then take the drive over to your laptop and install them from the flash drive.

Toshiba Satellite A105- S54014

Press F8 function key several times as the computer turns on and when you get a list of options select Last known good configuration the press the Enter key.
If Windows then boots up properly then re-install the latest Windows Service Pack (SP3 for XP, SP1 for Vista).

If all fails then re-install Windows.

Your problem: "I have Windows Vista installed on my laptop."

Unfortunately, as with a lot of MS service packs, they can crash some computers. You need your windows vista disk and, booting from it, you can select repair your vista installation. This should take care of the problem. Then don't update to sp1 for a few months.
