Question about Radio Shack Lands Phones
Just got a Radio Shack 3829 answering machine and am trying to retrieve messages remotely with my cell phone. I'm following their instructions by entering my code and then pressing 1# after the recorded message but my cell phone says, "call ended" and I don't get the messages. Any ideas?
Check if message retrieval works with a landline phone. If that works, then either the tones generated by your cellph are too far off frequency, or the cell network is filtering out or compressing too much of the tones.

Well, your machine might be broken, or you haven't set the little switch on the unit to ANS. The switch is on the side of the machine where the cables come out. But here are the instructions from the manual:
Recording Outgoing Messages:
Your answering machine has a built-in outgoing message, "Hello, please leave a message after the tone." You can use this message or record your own.
1. Hold the ANNC/DAY/<<, and speak clearly into the microphone, no more than 10 inches away.
2. Release the ANNC/DAY/<< when you finish. Your answering machine beeps and automatically plays back your recorded message.
*Your outgoing message must be between one and 60 seconds.
*If you record your won message but wish to revert to the pre-recorded message, press DELETE during playback of your outgoing message.

i guess its similar to 43-3825 so here you go
http://support.radioshack.com/productinfo/DocumentResults.asp?sku_id=43-3825&Name=Telephone Answering Devices&Reuse=N
copy and paste it as it is starting from the (N) letter back to (http://)
let me know if its not the one :)

SOURCE: I have tried to access
Hi, the security code is not able to be changed by the user, so the code you got from the bottom of the unit should be the right code. After entering the code, did you enter the command that you wanted (2#, for example) within 10 seconds? If you waited longer than that, it can kick you out of the remote access system.
One thing you could try is dialing in and then after entering your code, type "7#" and see if maybe that will kickstart it back on and let you listen to your messages.
Any luck? If not let me know and we'll go from there.

Hi, here are the instructions for setting the time on a 43-3825, which is a very similar model. They should work for your machine too.
1. Press and hold TIME SET/CHECK/>> until you hear it beep twice. 2. Press ANNC/DAY/<< and the machine will say a day. Keep pressing that button until you hear the correct day. 3. Press REC and the machine will say the hour. Keep pressing it until you hear the right hour. 4. Press >= (the play/pause button) until you hear the right minute. 5. Once you've gotten the correct day and time, press TIME SET/CHECK/>> to save it.
While you're doing this, you can't let the machine sit idle for more than 5 seconds at a time, otherwise it will exit the time setup and you'll have to start over again. Good luck!
