Question about Philips PSS110/17 MP3 Player

1 Answer

I have a new philips pss110/05 and I can't get the power to stay

I think this unit was old stock. I can only get the power to stay on by holding the button down. As soon as I let go the on button it swiches off. I have followed a the guide from the philips website but it still does not charge. I think I have loaded the latest firmware (by keeping my finger on the on switch) but it still does not want to charge or stay on with the mains cable. Can anyone help?

I bought the PSS120/37 and I can't even get it to charge up. I had it charging for about 3 hrs using the AC charger, but can't get it to even turn on. I'm n ot sure if I got a bad unit, a bad charger, o am missing something in the directions. It seemed pretty straight forward but just not working. Anyone know if it can be charged through the USB? At least then I might know what's causing the issue or at least narrow it down.

For the person with the model # ending in /05 - that is a non-US model, so it won't work on a US computer.

For everyone else:
Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged
Try another USB port
Reset the player

If that fails:
Download the newest version of the Philips Device Manager:
www.usasupport.philips.com - change your country/language as needed
Enter in your exact model #
Click on the link for your exact model #
Click on the Software & Drivers section
Click on "Firmware Upgrade Software"
Install the new Device Manager
Open and run the "Repair" tab

If still nothing:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

It wont stay on

Is it turning off with charger connected or without charger?
If it is turning off while charging also, Try doing a soft reset.
  1. Insert a small pin or unfolded paperclip into the reset hole located at the back of the player.
  2. Hold until the player shuts down.
  3. Power on the player again by using the Power on/off key.
If this doesn't help, try repair it using Philips device manager program which came with the CD or downloadable from Philips web.

Make certain the new battery is full. It may have been old stock, or defective. Has it worked at all since fitting the new battery?

My screen dosen't show any lettering and when i turn it on it stays frozen

Ahh Philips! You need to get the firmware upgrade for your player by opening the Philips Device Manager and clicking on "Update"

If the device manager doesn't recognize your player as being plugged in, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware.
Wizard.

Does not recognize

Ahh - you have Vista! You MUST get the newer version of the software from www.usasupport.philips.com. Enter your model number and go to the "software & drivers" section. Download the updated version of the device/firmware manager. Once the Vista-compatible version of the software is installed, then you can go to the Update tab and the firmware upgrade that you need will be installed - you will not get the "your player's firmware is already up to date message."

I did not really fix the problem, I think my unit is just old. So I am deciding to buy something more up to date. My unit now is already 8 years old and there are other items smaller in size to carry and more modern.

Thanks anyway.

Philips HDD 6330/17, doesnt play music..

The rule for this device is first reset (hold power on/off and volume + simultaneously and continuosly while the player is turned on; reset works when the power turns off), and then Repair if that fails. The problem with Repair is that it deletes every file from the GoGear. Here are better instructions for repair than the manufacturer's:
1) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips) - if you don't see it, then re-run the installation CD or grab the "Device/Firmware Manager" from the Philips website
2) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
3) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off (if you haven't done so already) - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new.
