I'm running vista. Right clicking on the desktop does not give me a properties screen. I went to control panel, device manager, monitors, but didn't see a way to make any changes.

Hi there
All you have to do is right click on the desktop, select "personalization" and then "display settings" this will allow you to change the aspect ratio to whatever you want and feel comfortable with

kind regards and Merry Christmas

Hello rbutch

You need to go into your OSD menu, the buttons should be on the side or top. I am not very familiar with this brand so if you need to know exactly what to do, please post what buttons you have since they are very similar between each other, but once you find them, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out otherwise. If for some reason, you don't have these buttons, then you need to go into your graphics card settings which can be selected by right clicking on the desktop and going to properties and then click on the settings tab to adjust. Let me know if you have any further questions.

I think it is setting menu, then video then ratio, tell me again the model, since I cannot see the full title.

Thanks.

Hi
Your entire desktop is probably stretched left to right.
You need to adjust the resolution of your computers video card in the display properties to one that the widescreen will accept correctly.
There is a chance that your video card may not have the correct resolutions available. If this is the case then you may be stuck with this view until you change coputers or video cards.
to get to display properties based on win2k or xp
Right click in the center of your desktop, choose properties, go to settings and there you should see the resolutions available. Try different ones till you find a good one, you may have to settle for one that is close to your monitors setup if the exact one isn't available.
If using a laptop with a standard screen with the wide monitor, you may need to disable the laptop screen and use just the monitor to get the correct resolution on the monitor.

railbird56, Common problem for ALL BRANDS of "cold-cahtode-fluorescent-lamp" back-lit lcd monitors! Here are your options!!! Cheapest to most costly!! 1. Warranty repair. 2 DIY repair???? 3. Local or distant repair. 4. possible old + cash swapout with Hannspree for refurbished same model?? 5. Trade-in for new wide screen. My best guess on your monitor (no history) is that the unit's SMPS is in partial or full shutdown mode during it's black screen moments. How much do you know about "electronic ballasts" "switch-mode-power-supplys" and how to repair them?? 12fixlouie

Acer 22 aspect circle, not elipse

You'll need to change your resolution to one of the below to get the correct aspect ratio for a wide-screen display.

1440 x 900
1600 x 900
1600 x 1024
1680 x 1050

You will find these settings in Control Panel / Display / Advanced. If none of the above are options you will need to obtain newer display drivers.

Please let me know if this helps or if I can be of further assistance. Thank you.

22'' LCD monitor aspect ratio is off.

Set resolution to the native 1680 x 1050. Then, using the buttons on the monitor, go into the monitor's menu. go down to "Image Setting", go to "HDMI Mode", then select "PC Mode". This should help everything fit on screen correctly.

Display appearing stretched

the original image size was probably recorded in 4:3 aspect ratio...meaning your widescreen is a 16:9 ratio size screen and is stretching it outwards to fill the whole screen. If you want the image to look normal.. ie. not short and fat people.... you need to change the picture size in the settings from widescreen 16:9 to normal 4:3 tv in the settings menu most likely...Also most remotes will/should have a button for that.
