Question about Philips Magnavox 51MP392H Rear Projection Television
And yellow. I took the screen off and the bulbs are all on, but I am not sure how to tell that they need to be changed, or is it the fact that the color is off that means that they need to be changed? Also where is the model number?
You can get a complete CRT fluid kit from www.TvRepairKits.com.
The kits also include a step by step photo instruction guide for the Magnavox TV sets.

Look inside of the tube from the top. They used to have a problem with fungus growing in the fluid that covers the face of the tube. Put the set on video input so it's a dark screen and then put the menu on. You'll be able to tell in the blue and green tubes that the letters are not clear. The red tube almost never is affected. You will see the slime covering the face of the tube. Before looking inside the tube, try this first: You can always tell with writing on the screen. Try and turn the color setting all the way down so you get a black & white picture. If the writing is still bad or you see the blue lines are fat compared to the red, then it's a tube problem. You can also tell in the convergance menu. The lines should be the same thickness. Changing the fluid shouldn't be that expensive. Have someone do it for you. But if the tube itself is bad/weak, tube has no sline, but still looks out of focus...fat lines..etc... forget about it. Magnavox/phillips sets are very poorly made sets. I wouldn't put money into repairs of more than $150-$200. They just don't hold-up. The model number should be on a sticker on the back. May have fallen off. Could be inside set after you remove the back.
