Moderns sewing machines have taken the oiling part of maintenance out of the hands of the user. take your machine to a professional for servicing.

SOURCE: The manual for the Singer 2517 sewing machine says

You can only oil the parts that you can see, if you want to get inside the machine a shop service is best.

SOURCE: Bobbin thread will not stitch.

Have you had the machine serviced since you purchased it? This is something that should be done at least once a year.

Take the machine to a certified Singer dealer and explain what is happening. There may or may not be something that needs to be adjusted.

Your warranty is still in effect, but is now limited. Attempting to repair it yourself or having someone who is not a Singer dealer repair it will invalidate the remaining warranty.

I know this question was posted a long time ago, but just in case anyone else has the same problem thought I'd share this: it's from the instruction manual for the Elna 2003, 2005, 2007.

Where does this go?? HELP?

While I don't know the exact answer, do you have the instruction manual for the machine? There should be a list of parts there. If you do not have the original, you can purchase a replacement manual from the manufacturer so long as you have the machine's serial number. The website for making these requests is here: http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals

Good luck!

How to take apart a signer 7430 model

You can remove screws bottom plate, however, unless you are mechanically inclined, I would take in for service. Lay machine back on soft cloth or old towel. Don't lose screws! Oil moving parts one drop good quality sewing machine only and use Singrr lubricant on gears. If you don't have oil or lubricant, you can blow hair dryer 1-2 minutes and put plate back on. Never oil or lubricate plastic parts! One drop oil on shuttle hook, Run scrap to distrubute oil before sewing on project fabric ! Jimmy

I have a brand new 4423 that is frustrating me so much I'm tempted to return it and buy something else. It will not sew a seam without having "birdnesting" underneath. It's horrible!! ...

Take it back while its under warranty and ask the dealer to thread up and sew on it; this way you can establish if it is a faulty machine or if its some other variable causing it. Certainly if you are an experienced sewer and have used other Singers, then you would know if you've done it correctly and your instincts tell you the machine is faulty so I'd suggest you take it back to the store.

It squeaks when u sew. i need to know where to oil it at

Squeaking or popping sounds could be a blunt needle so make sure you change it regularly, 4-6 hours sewing time is rule of thumb.

To find where to oil this machine download the manual from http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html, just type in your model number into the search field and click 'Search', most of the manuals are there as a downloadable pdf file.

The manual will show oiling points for your machine. Use sewing machine (clear) oil only, a little drop only but oil and clean regularly to get the best performance. Brush out any lint and dust first (don't use compressed air to blow a machine out, much better to brush out carefully with a little brush and remove the lint from the machine).

You can also put a drop of oil onto a piece of waste fabric then rub this up and down the needle bar (the metal part that goes up and down holding the needle) to keep this clean and lubricated.

How and where do I put oil in my hobby 303 sewing machine? Can I use WD40 to oil my sewing machine?

Don't use WD40, as if it gets onto paint or plastic it could damage the surface.

Use clear sewing machine oil.

You can purchase a manual for this machine from here http://sewingonline.co.uk/library/pfaff-303-301.html - the manual will identify the oiling points, for a mechanical machine there is usually a point within the rotary hook area that will need lubrication (and regular cleaning of lint and dust).

YOu can find general machine maintenance tips here http://sewing.about.com/od/sewingmachineindex/a/machinemaintain.htm

Your machine may have marked oiling points with a red dot - each machine is a little different hence the manual is always best reference point.
