Question about Pioneer VSX-49TXi Receiver

1 Answer

Improper equalizer between VSX-49TXi and LD player,no sound now

Actually, having mistakenly put an equalizer between my Pioneer Elite LD player and my Pioneer VSX-49TXi receiver, via analog ,RCA cables, it appears I have confused or ruined the sound de-coding properties of the receiver. Now I only get one front channel of sound ,or occasionaly center channel and left, or right channel, no matter what sound mode is selected. The receiver will not go back to original settings when I've used the re-set buttons (as in operators manual)or re-boot by unplugging unit. What can I do to reset,or maybe reprogam the audio chip-set (?). Is that possible ,or have I permenantly ruined the algorithm(s)? I searched the net in hopes I could find a way to download the software or something to that effect; for the chipset ,but to no avail. The receiver ,having a firewire connection made me think there may be some means of hooking my laptop to the receiver and resetting the audio ,but i haven't found any codes for that at Pioneer or other sites yet. Will I be stuck buying a new chip set or whatever, from Pioneer to fix the sound /speaker out-put problem, or is this a fixable program error? Thanx Danny F. Aspen,COOLarado

Hello,
You may want to buy the service manual (SM) from Pioneer for this unit. It has a lot of info on resetting and testing the receiver under the "Test Mode". It is highly improbable that you could ruin the firmware by connecting the receiver in an unusual way. You may just need to reset it to factory specs. Another option if you bought it from a local Pioneer dealer is for them to reset. It usually involves getting into the secret menu to do so.
I had one of these for a short while and they are quite nice receiver.
Good luck

I just want to know if I can run a turntable through this unit

You can connect some turntables to the VSX-54TX. The turntable needs to have a built-in phono equalizer; then you can connect it to the Line In connection. See page 26 of the manual for the details. The manual is available on the Pioneer product page: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Elite+Receivers/VSX-54TX in the Manuals & Brochures section. The current direct link to the manual is http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_11221/128163968VSX-54TX%20OPERATING%20INSTRUCTIONS.pdf .

I hope this helps. If you post a comment with the model of the turntable, I may be able to help identify if it has the built-in equalizer.

Good day, I need your asst. I can't seem to remove the 2ch playback from my VSX-49TX Elite Pioneer reciever, I tried reseting it and nothing happen...can you help me.

If you have no sound, you can try the multi channel inputs on the back after switching to the multi chan input. If you have sound that way, you have a DSP problem. I can repair this issue to the component level, as many customers have found, the boards are very expensive, and no longer available. If you're interested in repairing your receiver, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. There you will find the seminar I wrote for Pioneer, when I worked there as a Field Service Engineer, specializing in audio. You can contact me directly from my website. Thanks you.

The problem was actually at the speaker. The speaker I was using was a Kef speaker and it was missing a metal bar running across both negative terminals in order to power both the tweeter and woofer.

Sound Just Stopped Working

I have the same problem with my 49txi, and I called pioneer and a repair shop as well. Both told me that the 49txi has a known problem with over heating and that its boards unsolder themselves. I would have thought Pioneer would stand behind something this expensive, but that was the old Pioneer in the 80s, and the new Pioneer says we are on our own.
