Motherboard replacement needed eide compatible

I need to replace an AK33Gold motherboard but need to keep my old drives. Just bought a new Western Digital 320 gig hard drive a few weeks ago and also am not yet ready to give up my 3.5 drive (call me lod fashioned, but I still havd some old data disks I haven't transfered.
What would you recommend product and procedure wise?

You called it, the old processor is an amd athalon. But I figured that would probably change when I change the motherboard. Right?

Do you have a formfactor/chipset/processor in mind?
The AK33 gold is a socket A mobo, so I would assume that you are using either an Athlon or possibly an Athlon XP CPU. Many mainboards (of the last generation) still support floppy drives with headers on the mainboard. Otherwise, you may want to consider a USB floppy. They are very cheap and portable.

Athlon 64 mainboards are pretty cheap right now, as are Intel Dual Core CPU's and mainboards. Some of the newer boards do not even have a FD header on them, so if you want to go that way just pick up a USB floppy drive. Shouldn't cost more than about $15.
For a real bargain, check out socket 478 (intel) and socket 754 (AMD) combos. They can be an excellent deal. I buy most of my stuff @ newegg.com

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions EIDE,SATA

the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or

just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all power and data to travel through every working device to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

When I turn on my Compaq Presario 5000, I get a message on the first screen that says 1801-Microcode Error. And something about needing a new bios? Please help me.

The motherboard of the pc has a corrupted BIOS chip - this isn't fixable, you would need to replace the motherboard who died of old age.
Since this is an extremely old pc there are no replacement or compatible boards left on sale. Sorry, time for a new pc.

Replaced hard drive and now it won't boot up, says hard disk not found

Did you set the jumper(s) on the new drive to match the settings on the old drive (usually CS or Cable Select)?

Did you double check the power connector was snug on the new drive? You may also want to double check the connector on the motherboard, SF systems are cranky about moving around, and mave have unseated the motherboard end of the cable.

Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

IDE will try to boot first when pluged in, sata will not boot. I think there is a adjustment in the BIOS setting to have the SATA boot first

Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

I removed the old memory and installed 4 1GB cards and the computer doesn't work? Help.

Adding new memory can be tricky. First the new memory has to be compatible with the motherboard.
By that I mean, you need to know how much memory the motherboard can max out at.Can it take only 2 GB or 4GB etc. And it has to be a match to what memory speed your motherboard can handle. If your motherboard takes DDR than you must put DDR in, if it takes DDR2 than you must put DDR2 in. Look at the old memory, and try to match all the numbers you find on it. Than look up the memory specs for the motherboard to find out how much it can take.
Any computer will not operate corecctly if the memory is the wrong kind, or installed wrong.

My Computer did not access Western Digital Hard Disk, Model No. WD 1600 AABB Caviar SATA.

Good morning! Please make sure that the drive’s power and SATA cables are properly connected. If the Serial ATA host adapter card is installed in a 64-bit PCI slot on the system motherboard, move the card to a 32-bit slot.

Verify that only one power cable (either SATA or legacy) is connected to the drive. Check to see that the power connector and SATA interface cable are securely attached and that the
SATA host adapter card is properly seated in the PCI slot.

The Serial ATA interface connects each drive in a point-to-point configuration with the built-in SATA port on the motherboard or with the SATA host adapter card; therefore eliminating the master/slave relationship as required with EIDE. Each drive utilizes its own
cable for data transfer rates. Jumper settings for Western Digital Serial ATA hard drives are mainly used for enterprise storage environments.

Most third party controller cards and RAID adapters are recognized as a SCSI device under Device Manager. This is normal and will not affect your drive or system performance.

To verify if the Serial ATA drive is recognized by the system, Right-click on the My Computer icon, select Properties, left-click on the Hardware tab, and click on Device Manager in the window. Double-click on Disk Drives. Your new Western Digital Serial ATA drive should be listed as a "SCSI Disk Device" or "Serial ATA Disk Device." If not, make sure that all cables are securely attached and that your system BIOS has been properly configured. regards

Hi, i have a 2.5 laptop hard drive and its bust. i want to buy a new one but the connections are different to other models. The one i have has 16 heads on! please help

What you're seeing is the newer drive technology called SATA. IDE is probably what you had before, and the drives are not compatible. If your computer had the "old" style drive, you need to get another IDE drive to replace it. SATA has to be supported by the motherboard, and also have the correct cables and connections in order to work.

In other words, if you just bought this drive, you got the wrong one - take it back and get IDE to replace the old drive ..worst case, take the old drive to the store and show the salesperson what you need :)

I have a 40 pin ide cable connected to my existing hard drive,i have just purchased a diamond max 21 , 250gb hard drive, which cable do i need for this

You can use your existing 40pin EIDE cabele for this drive, however check your motherboard for a SATA connector, as this drive can run EIDE or SATA, naturally the SATA connection is much faster and I would recomend using the SATA connector if your motherboard is compatible.

Hope this helps

differences of amperage this minor will not make any difference. As long as the System Setup (BIOS) identifies the drive, you should have no problem.
