Question about Watches

1 Answer

I bought my wife a citizen eco-drive wrist watch @ 4-5 years ago. Fro the start it did not keep time properly. Although fully charged, time laged behind. Secondly, the watch face hands did no match up with the time. At 6 o'clock, it looked like 5 o' clock. Instead of seeking repair, she stuck it in a drawer and used another watch. Yesterday she cleaned out the drawer and found the watch. She decided to take it to a jeweler who had repaired my citizen. He told us that the problem was within the watch and we should send it back to the company for repair. I spent several hundred dollars for the watch and would like to see her use it. My question(s)---How much of a cost would it be to have it repaired (approximately)? I would like to know it it is worth it. Also, where would I send it? Richard De Fonce

I was given a skyhawk eco drive watch from my late fatherinlaw, its brand new but it has been in its case(box)in dark for a long time and doesn't work...how do I get it going???

An Eco drive citizen is powered by the sun. You should take the watch out in the sunlight or put under a lamp to charge it for at least 12 hours. Once it is running you need to wear it to keep it running, you should be able to take it off at night and it will continue to run once it is fully charged. if it does not hold a charge over night after being fully exposed to light for 24-48 hours you may need to send it to Citizen for service on the capacitor. thank you!

Hello I've had my citizen Eco drive skyhawk watch for at least ten years now. I remember reading in my manual years ago that a battery needed to be replaced even though it's solar powered. My watch went...

There could be other issues beside the battery. My best solution would be to take back to where you bought the watch, or any other authorized Citizen watch retailer for repair.

CITIZEN ECO-DRIVE SKYHAWK WATCH not working

If this watch is several year old, it could be that the power cell is defective, and won't hold a charge. I have been also told by a Citizen Tech, that they will sometimes "hangup" or lock up, and may just need a quick jolt. This doesn't happen often, but Citizen has the equipment to test and supply this jolt to sort of kick start the movement again. They would also replace the battery while it was open. You can sometimes place it into direct sunlight for 15-30 minutes, but no longer...unless you want to melt the insides...lol.

Most Geniune Citizens have a five year warranty. Keep that mind too. Thanks.

I have a Citizen Eco drive waterproof wrist watch with four buttons and no ''winder'' can I get instructions for this watch

The eco drive means that it charges the battery using artificial light or sunlight, there is no need to wind as the battery never runs out of charge providing you keep it in light.

I own 3 Citizen ECO watches that have lost their charge.

Hiya Papahay,

are the crowns out at time set mode. This mode activates a 'hack device' ( a small spring in the watch) which will cut power to the circuit.

With the crown out and under light (even a desklamp directly with in a few mms above them) should do the trick.

These capacitors do need replacing, I suggest give the above a go for a least 24 hrs straight and go from there. When there are fully charge all you need to do is pull the crown out to time set mode and leave under light

How to replaced a eco drive battery

The ECO series of Citizen's do not require battery replacement, as they are solar powered. If the watch stops due to a long period of non-use, there is a procedure in the manual as well as the Citizen website on how to get it running again. You will have to expose it to light for several hours (but not with lots of heat such as a car dash) to get it running. If you continue to have trouble, you may have a problem with the watch. I bought my wife a ladies ECO drive about 8 years ago and bought one for myself about 2 years ago and have not had a bit of problems with either. They are extremely good watches and it is nice not to have to worry about "when will the battery die?"

Citizen Eco Drive second hand stoped working

The Citizen Eco Drive watches use special recharchable batteries.
I started collecting a couple of watches and I noticed sometimes a jeweler replaces them with an ordinary battery. The watch will work and at the same time it will try to recharge this one until it explodes! In newer models they made it harder to use the non-rechargable ones by adding a special connector or clip to the rechargable battery types.
Okay, if you say your battery goes bad, or watch does not run okay? It may have lost the charge over time. First thing to try is to leave it on the window sill so the dial is in the sun. It will start ticking, but please leave it out there for 3 days to a week. The seconds hand will tick irregularly in steps of one and two seconds, to show you it wants you to readjust the time, as it knows it has lost time. Adjust the time and it should run smoothly.
The seconds hand should run in single second steps, if it takes steps regularly, but every 3 seconds or so, it tries to tell you that its power level is going down. It will be able to continue for one or two days, but you should get it into the sun more often.
Charging the battery under a lamp is possible, however this heats up the watch and this may reduce battery life. As long as the watch keeps running I believe it should keep good time. It is quartz anyway. If this is not the case, and a good sunbath does not help, the mechanism could be running heavy, possibly due to overheating the watch; no help there...
If you need to know more about the Eco Drive, look for detail tech manuals for all types here: http://www.citizenwatch.com/downloads/tech/tech.htm
Those are great watches as long as you remember it needs light to charge.
