Question about Whirlpool LER4634J Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Whirlpool LER4634EQ, when I press the button to turn dryer on it doesn't kick in, won't turn on. but you can hear the timer humming on the temp dial. Dryer was working perfectly. Is there a fuse in those dryers that could have blown ?

Where on the dryer is this fuse ? Should I pull the back off of it ? I sure hope that this is the problem. I am a 60 yr old lady trying to fix my own stuff. Can't afford a repairman. Thank you so so much for your responses.

So, you don't think that it is the motor ?

  • kgutierz Dec 22, 2008

I'll do that but I am confused. You thought it was the fuse, but now you think it is the motor ? I guess because of what I replied to, not sure which answer is first. I'm hoping for a fuse, ofcoarse :). A motor, I am not so sure I can replace. Might be better off buying a dryer off of Craigslist. Just don't understand why a motor would go bad in 4 yrs. I understand that you can only go by what I tell you.

I have the same problem with LER4634EQ2. I can hear the timer ticking, but when I push the start button, nothing happens. I am going to get a new fuse and install it, and let you know what happens.

Yes, it sounds like you blew the main dryer thermal fuse, easy fix. write down the model number and go and buy one were ever. it will be white plastic with two metal tabs coming out of it. it might be skiny or it could be a round one no bigger then a half dollar. write me back once you have this. kelly

if you are lucky it is in the back. does your dryer have a back panel? if so it is back their. i have faith that you can do it, all you need is a 1/4 nut driver. just pull the dry out or tape the door shut and place some towels in front of the dryer and lay the dry face down. this way you can access everything you need to get at, just unplug first. kelly

yes, when you push the start button and you hear a hum it is the motor. do this, have someone else push the start while have your ear in the lower left corner in the front or in the lower back corner on the right. if you hear that humming right their then its the motor. kelly

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II gas dryer won't turn off.

Dryer Won't Stop Running
  • Ultimate Car II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door. If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble. Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine now.

Dryer wont start when start button is pressed, but humming sound

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

Whirlpool dryer LGR 7646FQ1 simply does not turn on

I believe mine issue is the same....we isolated it to the timer itself.....try having everything set so it should be running, then slowly move timer around its cycles....mine would kick on an off with no rhyme or reason and when it should have been off.....timer shot, have ordered replacement.

Dryer won't run

Its time to call the repairman. If its the motor humming its either bad or the dryer is froze up and unable to turn causing the motor to hum. Eventually it will trip the breaker.
