Acer Aspire L100 overheating

Hi there,
I was curious about your suggested fix for overheating of this Acer Aspire L100?
Our computer has always been horrendously noisy but has recently started freezing and spontaneously shutting down. Opened up yesterday and found a load of dust, but it still froze today so think it may need more than a quick dust!
thanks Katherine

You could try a new cpu fan and heatsink. They are normally inexpensive. if this does not work make sure all the case fans are working and check to see if your ram is overheating

I reset my surge protector and the computer wont power up. i think i need a new power supply. the power cord is working fine. Please let me know where i can find a power supply for the aspire...

The Acer Aspire L100 is a desktop computer powered by a special DC adapter and power cable. The computer's motherboard incorporates a fuse designed to prevent any power surges from damaging the computer. If the fuse burns out due to a power surge or for any other reason, the computer will no longer function. You can check the motherboard fuse for damage yourself, then take it to a trained technician for replacement if needed

Shut down the Acer Aspire L100 and turn the tower around.

Press the "On/Off" button on the front of the tower. If the computer will not boot and the fan does not turn on, the fuse may be burned out.

Unplug the power cord from the rear of the tower

Turn the tower on its side and remove the Phillips-head screws connecting the back panel to the Aspire L100's cabinet.

Pull out the motherboard assembly gently from the back of the cabinet. The internal fuse is located on the motherboard behind the DC power jack, which is to the right of the monitor jack

Let me know if this helped..

After the electricity fail, my Acer Aspire L100 will not start, What could happen?

2 things could have happened, a brown out and a surge a surge (usually what we fear the most about) will spike send electricity up to the computer destroying it, there is also a brown out, a brown out is when the electricity suddenly drops with out a single warning or notice, this can damage your computer very badly call acer, they should be able to fix it idk if its free or not but it does not hurt to ask.

Go back to Acer.com. The driver you want is the one that say's (Power 1000 chipset driver) that is if it's an integrated Network card. If it's not integrated then I would need the name on the card. Hope this helps.

    L100 overheating

In most of the cases the cooling radiator inside the computer is full of dust, clean it as well as the fanblades and things will improve.

Try to find a place nothing is blocking the inlet on the back and the outlets on top and in the front, open the part which covers the usb and other connections on the front.

Possible overheating problem for Acer Aspire mini L100

I am not totally sure if this is the problem, but I would suggest that you may have a power supply issue or possibly it going out. If the computer runs fine, and then shuts down, than this can be more symptomatic to a overheating issue.

In my limited experience with overheat issues, the computer actually smelled like it was getting hot, and then it would slow down and then sometimes stop. Most computers have fail safe settings where they either alarm, or shut down or both when they overheat.
