HLM507w - No Sound, picture problems, weird issues

I have a Samsung HLM507w and I am having problems. First, the picture will sometimes kind of bug out and the colors will look all weird. I've heard that this may be the color wheel stopping. The power button does nothing when this happens and I have to unplug it.

Also, sometimes the picture will bug out and start flash sideways in a strobe like fashion and again, I have to unplug it. Sometimes, after I've unplugged it and turned it back on, it will bug out again and turn off to the 3 blinking lights on the front. This tends to not go away and requires a power cycle.

The weirdest thing, is the sound also went out. It sounds like a total TV failure at this point. My best guess was that I would need a color wheel and/or new bulb, but it's starting to sound like a PCB problem, although I have no reference for this...I'm simply guessing. Any ideas?

What is the power supply? Is that the balast? or is that part number BP94-00025A

From what I've researched online, the bulb and color wheel have nothing to do with the problem. Other people have described the color wheel as causing black and white or 2 color pictures while the bulb causes the tv to not turn on and stay with the 3 blinking lights on the front. While a bulb replacement may be in order, it doesn't explain why the sound went out and why the picture goes berserk after a couple minutes. I've heard that this may be the light engine.

Yes you are right light engine should be checked . But replacing light engine costs you more . Light engine is the culprit for your problem .

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the best/foremost approach would be a look and see requiring that the rear cover be removed and with a troublelamp, inspect the interior. Of course since you will have to do visual inspection with the power turned on (to see if the color wheel is turning and see if the blower/ventilator fan(s) are turning, extreme care should be exercised.

This of course would require opening the unit, perform voltage measurements, determine faulty component and subsequent part(s) replacement. Further, a fair familiarity of electronic omponents/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would be required. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

There should be a 5-7 pin Ic attached to a heat sink close to where the speakers connect to the main board. Check for bad connections on that IC. The opther possibility is that the heat sink compound has dried up and the IC is getting too hot. Check for these first and update this. You can also try and replace that IC. other wise you may just need a new tv.

You can replace it your self but it's the re-alignment in the service mode software you will have a major problem with. Not an area to be into if you've never done one before.

Samsung HLM507W will not turn on Alright so here's the deal....I got this TV for free from a guy on craigslist. He said he couldnt get it to turn on. He replaced the lamp, it still didn't work, so he gave up and now I have it. First thing I did was try and turn it on... The TV powered up for about 5 seconds, and then the screen started to flicker all kinds of crazy colors, and it shutdown shortly after with all 3 lights blinking. I figured this probably has to do with the color wheel, so I bought a new one and popped it in. Once installed, the TV started right up, and worked for the entire duration of it being on (approx 7 hours). Now it will not turn on. Here's the startup sequence: -Push power -A couple of audible clicks, and both cooling fans energize. -Lamp does not turn on, and after about 45 seconds of having just the fans running, the TV cycles off and tries to power itself back on. -Rinse and repeat about 3 times total. -After the 3rd attempt, the TV shuts down completely and all 3 lights start blinking in front. -Pushing power does not do anything with the 3 lights blinking. TV must be unplugged and pplugged back in before sequence can be attempted again. Looking for a possible solution/troubleshoot technique. Checked the fuses and they are fine, triple checked all of the connections. Seeing as the lamp doesnt even attempt to energize, Im thinking it could be the ballast, but I'm trying not to dump money into something that might not fix the problem. Thanks for your help!
