Does your drive read any other disks? And how did you uninstall. Did you use the add/remove programs feature?

I think some versions of the game are on DVD. Make sure that you have the disc in a DVD drive if your is one of these.

Have you tried a different disc?
Is the disc scratched or dirty on the (shiny) side?

Are there any scratches on the disk?

Well thts seems your cd is scrached or else unreadable, you can repair your cd  Scratches can be repaired with a disc repair kit, available at any computer or music store. Follow the instructions carefully for best results. Unfortunately, not all scratches can be repaired. Sometimes, you just have to replace the disc. Water spots can also be a problem, and they don't usually respond to a scratch-repair kit. Beware of spilling sugary liquids like soda on your discs. Even if you wipe up the spill immediately, it leaves behind a sticky residue that will ruin a perfectly good disc by causing dirt, hair, and sweat to stick to the surface. Also, try not to touch the playable surface of the disc with your hands. Sweat contains salt, which will eventually cause tiny pits to form in the disc surface.

Problem running Civilization IV with Windows Vista

Okay, i play Civ IV on my system and i run Vista as well. Your best bet is the tweak with the compatibility. Find the install folder and look for the .exe that launches the game (civ.exe i think, don't hold me to that though). Right click on it and click on properties, then the compatibility tab. Try dropping the compatibility to win xp and see if that helps. If it doesn't, post your system specs and we'll work from there

Graphic card

the pc you are using probably has onboard video and not a seperate dedicated AGP graphics card, which needs atleast 64MB of memory and T & L support, so check the card before you buy, if you already have an AGP card fitted it may not support T & L
