SOURCE: Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

Sounds like it is the bearing on the water pump. Take off back plate and replace and remove 3 screws and two hoses (the one hose is a waste line so make sure you have a bucket to empty our waste water) after removing these remove belt on bottom of pump.

I had a problem similar to this. There was a bobbie (?) pin stuck in the pump. Google how to take the front off and then disassemble the pump. (It will be on the bottom right side in the front of the machine). Pretty simple. Took about an hour and a half.

SOURCE: washer making rattle noise during wash and spin cycle

Hi,

I would agree with that diagnosis. That is a symptom of a worn thrust bearing for sure and it is a quite common occurrence on your style of washer.

I wouldn't rule out debris in the drain pump as another possibility as well though, i.e. small stones, jewelry, etc. You may want to rule out that possibility before throwing money at a pulley & thrust bearing kit ( it is actually a "transmission pulley kit" which comes with a new thrust bearing as well ). part # 12002213 and retails for about $40-$50 see photo's below.

Hope that answer's your question. Let me know if I can assist you further and thank's for visiting "fixya" for your repair inquiry. Please take a second and rate this info I provided for you here.

Good luck.

GE washer WNSB9080B only allows me to run "Drain and Spin", no other cycle. It wounds like there is still water inside when I move the drum around.

In top loading washing machines, the agitator is responsible for moving the clothes through the water and detergent and is driven by the output shaft of the transmission. The output shaft is normally splined and the center of the plastic agitator will have a matching spline to ensure a tight fit. Depending on the brand of washing machine, the agitator may be a single piece unit or a two piece dual action agitator. If the single piece agitator or the lower portion of a dual agitator does not oscillate back and forth during the wash cycle, or if the agitator can be turned on the transmission shaft, then the spline may be damaged and the agitator may need to be replaced. Most agitators are held in place with a bolt that threads into the top of the transmission shaft and is located below the softener dispenser or top cover. Some models use a small set screw in the barrel of the agitator just above the base to secure the agitator to the shaft, while some will use a rubber o-ring to provide a tight fit. When the retaining device is removed you should be able to lift the agitator from the shaft.

The agitator on my maytag mvwc300vw1 barely moves. We used an agitator replacement kit but nothing changed. The spin cycle works fine. Does our washer have a repair we can handle?

there really isnt much more to look at when u have the issue ur talking about? Are u sure u placed the cam dogs in correctly? u may want to check the agitator spline which the agitator sits into at bottom if bad however that should also effect the spin?

Washer fills with water but doesn't begin to agitate to wash. It also drains but doesn't spin when we set the dial to that

Your agitator pindle. has come loose From the spline. Try to lift up on the agitator. If it lifts off the spindle easily then it has worn out the spline. That is what connects the agitator to the s

In the wash cycle it makes a noise and the drum won't spin but in the spin cycle it does spin.

There is a part under the agitator of your washer, if you pull up at the agitator it will come out, then there should be a separate plastic part under that held down possibly by a nut. That part is probably worn down and needs to be replaced.
Best of luck to you

My washer will fill not agitate will spin and empty

rom what you're describing it sounds like the transmission is faulty. I recommend removing the agitator & inspecting the splines. If the splines of the agitator & the transmission are good you will need to have the transmission replaced.

Neptune washer will not go past the first wash cycle

All functions operate normally except the machine will not agitate.

The agitator is driven by a couple of different methods. The first is the agitator is splined and slips onto the matching splines of the agitator shaft from the transmission. The second is the use of a bell coupling which is splined to the agitator shaft as well and the agitator snaps onto the coupling. If the agitator does not agitate, first remove the agitator and watch the agitator shaft to see if it is working properly. This will require a small load setting of water and the machine set to run. If the agitator shaft is working properly, it is either the splines on the agitator or the bell coupling that is defective. If the agitator shaft does not work properly, the problem is in the transmission.
