Question about Garmin StreetPilot c550 GPS Receiver
I purchased this GPS from Best Buy on 11/28/07 as a Christmas gift for my husband. He received it on Christmas Day and we used in for the first time on 12/28/07 en route to Florida. Then it was unused while we were in South America for a month. It was used minimally for the next few months as my husband became ill and passed away in July. I have been using it ever since except for a month when I was out of the country.
It has suddenly stopped working. It will not accept a charge from either car, nor will it take a charge from the wall socket in the house. The fuse in the car charger appears to be intact. The screen remains dark. The manual says to let it sit for a couple days - up to 72 hours. We are now in that period.
Now that I am traveling alone, I need this GPS system both for directions and for the bluetooth capability and I am going to begin traveling frequently by car at the end of this month.
Please direct me to what may be wrong, what I need to do for repairs, and whether you will honor the warranty on a machine that was purchased but not used until after Christmas. I rely on the GPS on long trips and am concerned about traveling alone without it.

SOURCE: Poor directions
Go to setting (the wrench icon) press it, then look for Navigation, then check Route Preference to see if it is set for either fastest time or shortest distance. If you want shortest distance, the upgrade most likely reset it to Fastest Time (default).

If your StreetPilot freezes (stops responding to button presses), try turning it off and then on again. If this does not help, remove the batteries and then reinsert them. Disconnect from external power, if necessary.
Clearing all User Data
If resetting does not fix your problem, you may need to clear all user data from your StreetPilot.
• IMPORTANT: zf you clear all user data, you will delete all saved locations from My Favorites I and all settings in your StreetPilot. Be sure you want to clear all user data before proceeding.
To clear all user data, press and hold down all buttons in the following order: ciJ, Wheel, Power.
Continue holding down all buttons until you see a prompt, “Do you really want to erase all user data?”

with the garmin off, hold down the right bottom of the screen and turn the garmin on, it will then ask you if you want to perform a hard reset. Choose yes and that should fix your problem.

you can use the house adapter to charger the GPS.
The GPS should be charged for more than 10 hours because the battery cell must have been weak and it needs a lot of charge for the battery to wake up.
Last year July is really a long time. The battery needs a lot of charge.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your help. I will leave it charging from now until tomorrow morning. After this, I will not let it get this low again. Again, thank you."
