The crt coolant tanks should be full all the way to the plug. Its a special CRT coolant which has to be installed. The circuit boards will also need to be cleaned and possibly require the components that were in contact with the coolant resoldered.

I have a buzzing noise from inside the TV

immediately check your plyback connectors and wirings.there is a leak in your high voltage and this is dangerous so be carefull..to locate the leak, open the back cover of your tv enough to see the inside components...specially the plyback transformer..power on the tv and look for the arking of the high voltage.it is like a lightning strong light that produces the buzzing sound..once you see the source of the leak..power of the the tv.use a silicon adhesives (silicon gel) a silicon that is use by the glass intallers to bond the mirrors use on the display show room..apply the silicon on the leak area .apply a large amount of it to be sure there is no leak...once it is bonded you can power the tv right away...to check whether the leak is cured...

good luck hope this helps you..

please rate my help tnx.

TV will not show a pic just sound but when movie playing can view

  1. Sounds like you have a video prioblem. But before you go spending money on a service call. Unplug the TV and take the back off. Next with a bright flashlight check the boards in the set for coolant fluid that has leaked onto the board. The fluid will be clear and kind of have a gel like feel to it. If you see it your set is unfortunately toast because parts are NLA (no longer available) Good Luck

I had this problem with my rear projection screen tv. It was the gel going out in the projection lights. You will need to get it replaced.

Is the service tech lieing

Well, it could be true that that is your problem, but see what kind of estimate they will give you for fixing it, a big tv like this will cost quite a bit to fix. You could attempt to fix it yourself but I don't want to be the one to tell you how as I don't want to be the reason if you should get hurt from working on this. If it costs too much to fix, then projection tvs are not for your parents and you should try something cheaper and get an lcd tv. Circuit city has a 32 in for under $500. Basically if the gel leaked all over the tv, it may cost quite a bit and this isn't fun for them or for you. If you have any other questions, let me know

Picture tube gel leak

The best way to clean it is to remove the board completely and wipe up as much as possible, then use qtips with rubbing alcohol to remove the left over residule the alcohol will dry quickly, but still allow the board to air day a full 24 hrs before reinstalling it in the TV.

Cooling system

The CRTs have coolant in them, they also have a history of leaking the coolant onto the circuit boards causing the set to shut down. If you need more help let me know.

YOU WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE RED PICTURE TUBE ASSEMBLY--THATS JUST THE START,,THERE ARE A LOT OF ADJUSTMENTS INVOLVED IN THIS JOB---ALSO THAT GEL OR FLUID,IF SPILLED ON THE CIRCUIT BOARDS WILL CAUSE EVEN MORE PROBLEMS---NEED A TECH FOR THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!

Sony prjection tv 5 years old hardly used eithier

has the set been knocked or had a bang in any way, these rear projection tvs are very tempermentle to slight knocks, as you can knock the crts out of line, also the crts have a cooling gel that is located on the top of them, these after a while cloud up causing a very poor picture, if this is the case, then they will have to be replaced, just have a quick look at them you will be able to see if its the gel problem, look directly down on the crts (MAKE SURE THE SET IS TURNED OFF THOUGH), hope this is of some assistance.
