Question about Zyxel P660HW-D1 Router

1 Answer

Port Forwarding I just bought a new computer and I need to do port forwarding in order to use torrents. I did this successfully on my previous machine and I followed to same steps this time (i'm using the same Zyxel router as before) but the DNS servers appeared to have changed when i check on the ipconfig/all command - the DNS is now the default ip address (192.168.1.1) - I have set up a static ip address but it's still not forwarding.

Hello just got sorted, hope this is helpful ,,,i logged onto port forwarding.com and a long story short , basically had to interigate my zyxel router, what you do is fix the ip add of your wireless connection (the computer) to a manual fix eg. mine is now fixed to 192.168.1.40 with a port tunnel 46207(utorrent preferences)i picked this out of my head as there is a scale from one no. to another.   you then get the password to your router and get into its internal settings via password and go to the port forwarding section, you then tell the router that the computer has a fixed ip add (the one above ) and dedicate a fixed port or tunnell/window mine is 46207save this setting on your router and your home and dry, basically your telling the router that the computer has a fixed add, with port window??? and off it goes ,,,,portfward.com tells al

IP Camera Port Forwarding

The best way to find out what is being forwarded is to look at the traffic with the Wireshark program. You can install this from the Internet.

Wireshark is perfect for this but you have to learn how to filter traffic or there will be too much information collected. It is also regarded as (a bit of) a burglar tool so don't use it at work without permission.

I would recommend that you connect a PC to a wired port on the inside LAN and configure the router to forward outside requests to the PC. When you run wireshark on the inside PC with a filter that selects for tcp port 80 (or tcp port == 80) you will see traffic forwarded from the router.

Use your outside machine to request a page from the router's outside address and the port you are forwarding. If you have forwarding set up correctly, you should see a TCP connection attempt. If you are not running a web server on the inside PC, there will be no connection so you will only see the SYN packet from.
outside. If you have a web server on port 80, you will see a fair number of packets in both directions. (SYN -- SYN-ACK -- SYN -- some HTTP Headers an HTTP GET / a response and FIN -- FIN-ACK).

Once you see successful port forwarding (your are forwarding TCP packets, right?) at the PC, change the destination of the forwarding to the camera.

This is really technical but Wireshark is so good that it is quite easy to use.

You must add them to your firewalls permission settings and then try the test again,

Depending on the model you have, you need to enter "applications & Gaming" chose "Port range" and set it to the same Port as your torrent-program, dont forget to point to the IP address on the computer.

Help with my router

You did not have this problem before because port forwarding was set on the previous router settings, or you were using a modem ( no firewall) .
Here are instruction for port forwarding
Here are more instuctions
One last thing, if your computer is powerful enough (1gb memory would be good), use Azureus, is much better.

Port forwarding

hi there,
this is a basic step used to forward ports to your system.
Port Forwarding Steps for Routers 1. Log into your router. Usually the URL is http://192.168.1.1/, and enter the username , and the password . If you have never set a password, the password (which you should change) is admin. Consult the manual if you have never set up your router before or need to reset the password. 2. Click on the "Applications & Gaming" tab or Under Advanced, click Port Forwarding.
3. Click on the "Port Range Forward" tab .
4. In the "application" field, type "web" (if you are forwarding wb traffic on port 80) or "torrent" (if you are forwarding bittorrent traffic on port 40156). This is just a "nickname" so that you can recognize what you were trying to do when you come back to it.
5. In the "Start" field, enter: 80
6. In the "End" field, also enter: 80
7. Set "Protocol" to TCP. Web and Bittorrent servers use only TCP, so there's no reason fo forward UDP traffic too and create an unnecessary security risk.
8. In the "IP Address" field, enter: 192.168.1.11 or your system IP address.
9. Click "Save Settings." Forwarding should begin immediately.
