Same problem, just happened. I suspect the TV was bumped by kiddos when i wasn't looking. Left 1/3 of the screen is not in focus - the colors are clearly not aligned, but the rest of the screen seems to be OK. Not the same TV, but Sony rear projection TV that has same symptoms. Worth a repairman to come out? Can I fix this myself? Worth the cost? Someone, anyone, please reply.

    Thanks!

Well you can do it yourself if you have experince unsoldering and soldering.. change convergence amplifiers .. look for 2 parts with STK392-XXX .. depending on model number the 3 xxx will be the last 3 digits on that part

Most likely the color wheel is the problem. This part can be replaced but is difficult and requires considerable dissasembly and then a difficult alignment process. Reccomend an RCA auth. service center for this repair.

Double picture and unbalance colors

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Red green blue colors are not in-synch on screen, end up with multiple pictures. is this easy fix?

In your menu you should have a setting for convergence. this will allow you to shift each color to re-align them. If this does not work you will need to have qualified service center help you.

Lyp synching

There is a samsung TSS log for that problem. Heres what samsung says about it.
Tech must replace the following parts. This is a firmware software, and hardware fix. At the time of this writing the fix consists of replacing the digital, and light engine. It is Best to check their web site for the current part number because this is an evolving fix. Be sure you have the exact model number. Example HLN437WX/XX. This will insure that you will receive the right part number replacement.
