it's more than likely a driver issue, as the computer boots tap the f8 key and you'll presented with a boot menu. load the system in safe mode and see if it loads properly. if it does, uninstall the video drivers (usually the culprit) and then load the drivers from the manufacturer's website. windows update drivers sometimes screw things up more than they help. you can also tap the f8 key at boot and toggle down to 'do not restart on system failure' and restart. when the pc boots and it blue screens again it will stay on the screen and you can get the failure hex code. that will help us diagnose it

Try dumping the RAM. To do this press the power button and then hold "Command, Option, P, R" before the gray screen appears. Then the computer will 'bing' and restart. Wait until it has 'binged' twice then let go.

Windows xp tries to start in safe mode screen then as program starts gets brief blue screen then back to safe mode start selection screen once again this keeps repeating

your system will do this as it has shut itself down to protect itself, to make the blue screen stay on so you can write down the error code (e.g stop 0x0000007B),you need to choose the option of `disable automatic restart on sytem failure` (this will be on safe mode screen, reboot, then when you get the B.S.O.D it will stay on and display an error code, google it and you get the answer or post the code on here and i`ll tell you

Alot of the newer playstation console's won't read the old black or blue labels. Try getting it resurfaced. Cost you about $2 at the nearest game store.

Hi there.
Seeing as the laptop is only 5 months old it is still covered by the manufacturers warranty, the clicking sound you can hear is the hard drive failing, the hard drive is hardware and IS covered by the warranty.
Send it back to HP it won't cost you anything to have it repaired.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Can't get to login window

Blue screens are normally critical errors. If you have loaded any new hardware to your computer lately or some software packages you will need to uninstall them.

Try starting windows in safe mode by pressing F8 continuoulsy until you hear a beep. This will start the computer in safe mode and everything will look big on the screen, ignore that for now. While you are in safe mode uninstall anything that you have loaded prior to this error. Be it software or hardware.

If you have not loaded anything recently then try restoring your computer to an earlier time when you know that it was working with now problems.

Once safe mode boots go to Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose a date when you know that the computer was running okay. Once the restore has taken place the computer will reboot. If asked what mode you want to start in choose start windows normally.

Hopefully this will help you resolve your problem.
