Question about Logitech Z-5500 Computer Speakers

The system has stopped turning on

The entire system has stopped working apparently. I've had these since last July, and they've been working fairly well until now, but there just doesn't seem to be any juice flowing through it anymore. The control panel doesn't turn on when I flip the switch on the subwoofer. I've tried changing the outlet, plugging the hooks-up back in, the whole nine yards. Is it just the end of the road for this system, and after less than a year of operation? Temperature in the room is fairly moderate and the subwoofer has plenty of space around it. What can be done?

My reply to "tomj23":
ABSOLUTELY WRONG. Everything you said in that portion of your post was COMPLETELY INCORRECT. You need to do your research!

These speakers are covered by a two-year warranty from Logitech. It IS INDEED their policy to REPLACE the unit for you.

When you DO get a new unit, the warranty STARTS OVER. You get a completely new TWO YEARS from the date that they ship you the replacement.

I just RMA'd my own set that I bought nearly two years ago from The older generation had a problem where the subwoofer was not properly shielded against external interference. Mine was part of that old generation. I would get pops and hisses when I turned on devices in other rooms of my house!

Logitech gave me NO crap about replacing them. Even when I was about a week away from my warranty end date.

All I had to do was send them the control pod and the remote. They sent me an ENTIRE new set. Control pod, remote, satellite speakers and subwoofer.

BRAND NEW IN RETAIL BOX. I couldn't believe it! I now have TWO speakers in every location where before I had one. Also have TWO center channels. One on my desk and one mounted on the wall above my monitor.

What else am I to do with the leftovers? Sounds AWESOME. :)

All YOU have to do is contact Logitech tech support and start an Return to Manufacturer Authorization. (RMA.)

I'll paste to you what I put into another post I did for someone else. This includes all of the information you'll need to contact Logitech. This also tells the story of my entire experience with the RMA process. :)

I sent the control center, remote and purchase receipt with them.

5 days later, I found out DHL almost had my package here. (Although I was lucky. The turn-around time on the RMA is subject to supply and demand. I was quoted 6-8 weeks at one point due to their lot being completely empty. They are manufactured and shipped from China according to the rep I spoke with...)

My advice to you is to get right on the RMA process. Get your incident number from the Logitech rep who sets up your RMA. Get those two pieces sent in as soon as you can. Do what I did.

To do this, call the following number.

General Technical Assistance/RMA: 646-454-3200

Package the remote, control center into a box snuggly. WRITE YOUR INCIDENT NUMBER given to you by the Logitech rep on the receipt. Include the receipt in the box. Take it to the post office and send it by USPS Priority mail. Get "Delivery Confirmation" on it. All told it came to just under $10 for me.

Send it to the following address:

Logitech Incorporated
6505 Kaiser Drive
Fremont, CA 94555
ATTN: Incident Number# <put your incident number here>

You will also be instructed to send a copy of your receipt by way of fax. WRITE YOUR INCIDENT NUMBER AND PERSONAL INFORMATION ON IT BEFORE FAXING. (Or at least on a cover letter.) They're supposed to send you an email to let you know that they received the fax...but I never received one. Good thing I included a second copy with the control center and remote...because that's the one they used for processing.

FAX: 702-269-3439

I have pics of the shipping order that came on the box, too. If you would like to see this proof, let me know. I'll be more than happy to post plenty of pics that show my old set (sans the control center of course...) and the new set.

But don't delay like I did. Mine was two days away from expiration of the warranty before I sent in the parts. LOL.

And as further proof of what I'm telling you, I have pictures of the shipped product and what I received in return.

I'll post them on my server and give the link in a little bit. I'll post this for now, though. I'll be back with a link in a while. :)

Trust me on this. I just did this last month. You've got nothing to lose. :)

Re: The system has stopped turning on

This is a common problem with these speakers. Turning the speakers off and on at the bass unit seems to blow the amp. If this is the cause of your problem, you should replace the fuse(type T2A)in your bass unit. This same problem has happened to me 3 time in one month!

Re: The system has stopped turning on

I would connect your speaker system to another computer that has a working external sound system. If your speaker system fails to work there as well I wouldn?t waste any more time on it nor would I do anything to risk voiding the warranty. Your speaker warranty period is two years and you will want to get these exchanged as soon as possible. Even with the replacement set your warranty will still expire two years from your purchase date assuming you have your receipt. If you don?t have the receipt they can determine the manufacturing date from the serial number and will use that as the beginning of the warrantee period. Replacing them as soon as possible with give you a year to exercise them to ensure there are no hidden problems in the replacement set as well. Good luck and please don?t forget to rate this post.

Make sure that you've fully pushed in the jack to the sound card.....maybe you've not connected the jack into the correct socket on your soundcard as there are usually 3 identical sockets...but only 1 is the correct one. Sometimes colour-coded green. Try it in each one in turn. If you have headphones, try plugging them in as you will hear sound in them when you've got the correct socket!

Hi - I've just bought a hanns.g Hl225 monitor with (apparently) no speakers. Would it be cheaper to change the monitor or buy some speakers, and if so how would I fit them?

You can get PC speakers for just a few pounds/dollars. Most just connect via a USB port. If you're going for a powerful sound system, then it'll probably have a direct power connections as well as a USB plug. Most new ones will probably come with a connection diagram as well.

I have a VSB200. It worked until last night. No sound coming out of it now.

I have the same sound bar and in the middle of watching a movie, it just stopped working. I came to the conclusion that it was the optical hookup on the back of the speaker that had an issue. The problem with the entire situation is that I had only owned the sound bar for around two to three weeks and only watched around four movies on it until this problem. Either a fluke or bad quality. Check your optical connection if that is what you have it hooked up to.

I tried to extend the length of my front right speaker (power/vol) by purchasing a male to female VGA extension cord. When I connected bothe cables together and then to the sub everything stopped working...

I doubt the extension cord has something to do with that...Usually if the wires are short it would effect the main unit. Check the wires first, not only of the front right speaker but the others also...if they are short. If there's a fuse in the main unit you might find yourself lucky...otherwise you will have to get it checked by a mechanic.

Z-2200, Left Channel Stopped Working

The exact same thing has happened to me,, the left channel just stopped working. I am in process of changing the audio amplifier chip for the left channel a TDA 7296. Its a fairly inexpensive gamble at less then 5 bucks for the chip. It is fairly complicated amplifier chip with a built in mute, standby and thermal shutdown protection features in the chip so it is possible any of that has gone haywire the chip would not output properly if so. Also found on the same channel a small choke a three turn coil that was dislodged when they added silicon to the board and it pulled the choke lead right off the board. I would presume this alone would not be the problem but could have lead to the amplifier going bad if it truly is.
Evertyhing else on the main board seems to test well and nothing is standing out as a problem. Rollin the dice. Waiting for a chip in the mail,,, time will tell.

Bose companion 3

This is a common problem it seems with the electronics within the speaker set. (Companion 3 with sub and remote pod, aka, 'puck' = help desk support term)
I bought the multimedia speaker set in 2004 and had it replaced in 2005 because the 'puck' would not turn on (no orange light nor green light.) So I called help desk and they accepted the warranty exchange and I mailed the entire system (speakers and all) back to Bose in Markham, Ontario, Canada and they sent it back several weeks later. It worked 5-6 years after that as it is 2009 now, and it has the same problem again (no light on the puck). So I called help desk again and was ran through the same tests again (on/off, power plug off, various audio inputs, etc.) and the guy said to mail it in and they'd fix it as a non-warranty item. Cost: $85(Cdn) for repair + taxes, and $39 for remote pod.
So the sound that I got to enjoy from the Companion 3 system was amazing but electronic quality is very poor. For a set that cost above most other home user sets at FS and BB, it is substandard longevity.
I like Bose and have no complaints about the sound, but I will not buy another Bose multimedia package because at $350 (in 2004), I would expect it to outlast other sets. My friend bought a Logitech speaker set from another company in 2003 and is laughing at me as he realizes this is my second set and it hasn't even lasted as long as his own set.

No sound from logitech speakers, they worked 2 songs and then stop working i ve got control whit buttons on top of speaker but no sound please help

FOR MACS... Last February(08) I bought the V20 Logitech speakers for my Apple iBook laptop. I got them to work. Hadn't used them for about a year and had forgotten how to get the sound to emerge. I went to System Preferences. Clicked on Sound. I had plugged in the USB. Didn't show up. Unplugged it and plugged in again and there it was! I clicked on it and the sound came through immediately. So wait to plug in the speakers until you have opened Sound. (And Pandora (superb Internet radio station) is playing flawlessly.) I am not familiar with PCs. Sorry.

Harman kardon

Wow, general problem here, but the most near your problem could be, power failure, or the Power adapter is bad, or a energy failure at home, time to buy a new adapter.
