I have no idea if this will work for you, but it worked for us (and I have no idea why it did work!). In any case, all we did was hit the "Dimmer" button on the Sony BD remote. The disk opened; we shut it, and the disk began to load and played. Hope that helps you!

To reset your Sony BDP-S300,
When the power is ON, hold down the button between 'pause' and 'fast rewind' buttons, on the front panel of the player and press the 'Power" button on the frnt panel itself. No remote control function is required. The player will turn 'OFF" and all of the settings will return to their factory defaults. OK.
Please follow the troubleshooting steps and check the operation.
Power on the BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc player.
Immediately after "POWER ON" is displayed on the front panel display (within one second), press the "STOP" button on the player. The disc tray opens and the player turns off automatically. Note: Pressing the "STOP" button on the remote control does not work. It is necessary to press the "STOP" button on the BDP-S300 player.
If the disc tray still does not open, repeat these steps but vary the timing of pressing the "STOP" button in step 2.
If the issue persists, please unplug the Blu-ray Player for more than 2 minutes and then reconnect it.
Please let me know if you require any clarifications. Thank you for understanding.
The most common problem with blu-ray discs in blu-ray players like the BDP-S300 seems to be related to firmware issues. You can download the latest firmware from the Sony website here. Once burned to a disc on your computer you load the disc into the blu-ray player to update it.
