2005 Toyota 4Runner

I had someone try and steal my Catalytic converter by sawing thru the pipe connected to the back of the converter. They were not able to steal it but left a saw hole thru the pipe. I took it to my Toyota dealer and they are telling me that the pipe is part of the Cataytic converter and they would have to replace the whole converter. When I look at pictures of a conveter on the internet it appears as though the pipe can be disconnected for the converter and replaced. If I have the converter still why are they telling me the whole thing as to be replaced and not just the small pipe that was cut? Are they(Toyota Dealer) trying to rip me off?

The cut is about 10 inches from the cat on the pipe that comes out the back. It is a clean cut all the way thru. I think I'll just get someone to weld it then. Thanks for the help

    Avondale Toyota in Avondale AZ.

I almost forgot my original question. Since the pipe was cut 10 inches from the cat., and the cat. is still there.... Could the dealer have just replaced the pipe coming from the cat? They claim that the pipe is part of the cat. When I looked under the truck it looks like you could remove the pipe from the cat without having to replace the cat itself. Thanks

Where is the cut? On the converter, or on the pipe that comes out of the converter? If the cut is on the pipe AFTER the converter (is there a "flange" on the pipe that is cut?), it can be welded. If the converter is cut, the weld to repair it involves someone who can weld stainless steel. In any case, unless the catalyst is damaged, I'd weld it for you, as opposed to replacing the cat.

Cool. You have no problems getting it welded.
Please tell me, which dealer wanted to seel you a cat? I have connection with Toyota HQ, they need to know this stuff. Selling you a cat is simply BS.
The graciousness of a FixYa rating would be most appreciated.

Po125sensor andpo1135locations

The two codes may be related I would tackle the PO1135 first, the code pertains to the A\F Sensor. If you have the v6 it is after the y pipe right before the catalytic converter.

Got a new catalytic converter for my 97 4runner but the parts dont match up. The muffler pipe will not fit into the hole of the converter. the pipes are the exact same size.

did you buy a genuine part?and even if you did, toyota buy in exhaust components, so different makers will be slightly different re bore size, the ONLY way to make sure all the parts of the exuast fit, is to buy the complete system,if you cannot modify the pipes to fit.... please do not try to weld a cat onto a pipe.....

Try checking your catalytic converter it may be clogged. You can cut it out and put a test pipe in to check it out.
