Panasonic DMR-EZ48VEB DVD/VHS combi DVD tray will not stay closed

I have just bought a Panasonic DMR-EZ48VEB DVD/VHS combi. The DVD tray will not stay closed and I cannot play any DVDs. The VHS is working well but the DVD tray will not remain closed, with or without a disc in.

It can only be repaired by the repair shop I think your son broke a lug on the inside it may need a new tray?

Region free hacks On this page you can find everything about region hacking your player. As this site was also the place where the generic Panasonic DVD player region hacks originated from, it also covers almost any other Panasonic DVD player.

SOURCE: Panasonic dmr-eh57 multi-region unlock code

I sent an e-mail to Panasonic New Zealand to ask about this, and they advised:
"Panasonic NZ no longer pre set DVD recorders or players for all region multi-zones.
However, we will multi-zone for all regions on request. This needs to be done by an Authorised Service Centre, as a special service remote is used. Once delivered to one of these agents, the service company will charge the fee to Panasonic NZ."

If you're not in NZ, try contacting Panasonic in your own country. Just call up www.panasonic with your country code after eg. US = .com and NZ = .co.nz. It seems a *lot* easier than all those complicated hacks on the net. Now all I have to do is work out how to disconnect my DVD recorder again, and try to

PS. I realise this question is 11 months old by now, but I hope my response helps someone like me just cruising the internet looking for help.

The disc drive motor is burned out, its junk...if you didn't finalize the discs, they're junk too unless you buy another Panasonic DMR.

It sounds like the DVD-RAM drive is about dead. Panasonic did not make them to be very durable.

Panasonic sells replacements at a high cost.

Replacement drives may work from used models including:
DMR-ES15
DMR-ES25
DMR-ES45
DMR-ES46

If you select the HDMI channel to watch a dvd does it do it then, if not disconnect both ends of the scart lead and reconnect or replace. If the scart lead is not in properly this could happen, when you switch on the player and play a disc your tv will automatically switch to the AV/Scart channel, but you are better off manually turning the TV over to the HDMI Hi-Def channel for DVD.

I had this code (f09) on my Panasonic DVD VHS recorder. After seeing that it meant overload I took the cover off to look for burnt out components. I found that an electrolytic capacitor had bulged (look up capacitor plague on wikipedia). I replaced the capacitor with one of a similar value from an old power supply and it worked fine.
