Question about Philips 27PT5445 27" TV

1 Answer

Problems with my screen/picture

Since a recent move, our Philips television has not been working the same. It did not get bumped around or anything of the sort. The picture is cutting off at the top of the screen. There is about an inch and a half blank and blurred space at the top. We have tried to adjust the width of the picture with our remote and it made no difference to the top of the screen. If anyone has any ideas or solutions, please let me know!! Thank you.

Re: Problems with my screen/picture

Sounds like a vertical sweep problem in the vertical output circuit, or the drive circuit. this is a solid state set and there are no user replaceable parts inside. Please play it safe and take the set in for service. Good Luck

My wega 36" turns on but the screen turns black

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found at but supplies are limited. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

I have a tip/tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. It's called: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and Good luck.

Not sure which philips i have, but suddenly lines have appeared at the top of the picture, going the width of the screen, about 4 inches down the screen, and moving downward.

It seems you may have a vertical linearity problem. Check all electrolytic capacitors around the frame output stage. The frame output ic may be at fault but this is less likely.

Philips TV Model 32DW6557/05 Screen Problem

hi it sounds like a capacitor in the verticle circuit located on the main board. it is near the verticle ic. the verticle ic also could be bad the cost is around 85 dollars for a tv shop to fix. sometime a cold joint could be found around vert ic. a soldering iron is required with solder.tap the side of tv if picture comes back it is just cold solder joint.

thanks Doctor video

Horizontal lines slowly moving down

Sounds like you have a power supply filtering problem. Perhaps a filter capacitor is going bad. If your set has a switching power supply oscillations from it are getting into the video. You need to have a tech to check it out for you. You should get an estimate first before having it repaired. Stargazer
