I have a VC Wonderfire model 2610. The pilot flame is perfect blue on both sides... however, when I hit the switch for the main burner to come on...the pilot goes out... any ideas ???

You may have moved the safety sensor or pilot flame tip. The pilot light heats a wire. The wire is the safety sensor. The wire has to be clean and in the pilot flame near the flame tip.

I can get the pilot light to stay on but main gas burner won't fire up

If the pilot is lighting and the thermo couple is in the fire and turned red and the pilot still does not stary on change the thermo couple. They are available in any home improvment store.

Mike, I suspect that the problem you're having is not related to the new Thermoplie (Pilot Generator) you installed. Its with the Thermocouple. The clue was "Some of the time its hard to keep the pilot light lit". The Thermopile controls the opening and closing of the gas valve, when the wall switch is turned ON/OFF. The Thermocouple, is what keeps the gas valve open and pilot light lit all the time. If there's no flame heat on the Thermocouple, it closes the gas valve. Rather than replace it, you can try polishing it with some very fine sand paper, then wipe the tip with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol. If the Thermocouple is really pitted, don't attempt this. Just replace it. If you do replace it, when you make the connection to the gas control valve, finger tighten the nut, then tighten only 1/4 turn more with the appropriately sized wrench.

By the way, MARCO is no longer in business as MARCO Fireplace. It was purchased by Lennox Hearth, a division of Lennox Heating. And your model firsplace is no longer manufactured. If you continue to have problems with it contact Angie Parrish at Lennox via email angie.parish@lennoxhp.com.

Hope this helped you solve the problem. Please be kind enough to rate my response to you. Thanks and have a good day!

The pilot light will not stay on for more than 5min. If I light the fire when its on,it just goes out. The fire is a Fusion 2/7

I assume this is a gas log? If so, you have dust in your pilot assembly. Turn everything off and let it cool. Note the opening where the pilot flames burns. Use the wand from your vacuum cleaner and place it over the opening for the pilot flame. Gently tap the side of the pilot assembly while holdign the vacuum above the opening. This will lift the minute dust particles out and allow the flame to burn nice and blue again. These logs have Oxygen Depletion Valves on them. The pilots are very sensitive to dust.

The pilot light has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If flame goes out it shuts gas off to the pilot jet. The thermocouple is bypassed by a switch during the initial ignition and once the thermocouple warms up after a minute or two of holding in the bypass switch, it should maintain the pilot. It seems that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced if pilot light keeps going out.

Furnace runs about 1 minute, then total shutdown

that sensor as you call it is a thermacouple it produces a small current which lets the gas valve know it is ok to open . if the pilot is not clean and correct it will not let main valve open. if your pilot is good then you have bad gas valve. you may have low gas pressure this can also do what you are describing

I have a Model 792864B. Before you attempt to light the pilot light - make sure that any wall control switch or remote control for the fireplace is in the off position. Locate the gas supply line. There should be a gas supply valve to turn on the gas supply. The valve is usually painted a different color than the supply line like blue, green or yellow. Open the valve by pivoting the handle to be parallel to the gas line, usually counter-clockwise. When it is closed it is at a 90 degree angle from the supply line. Locate the pilot light assembly - this is the pilot light. There should also be a red or black ignitor button and a black or green valve control knob with the words "on" "off" and "pilot" on it. It may be located inside a black box, mine is marked heatolator, that has a lift off top. Lift off the top of the box. Push in the valve control knob and turn it until the word "pilot" is in line with the arrow (my arrow is red) or indicator line. While pressing and holding in the valve control knob - it presses in about 1/4", press the red or black ignitor button repeatedly (once per second) until the pilot ignites. Once the pilot is lit, continue to hold the valve knob in for about 30 seconds and then slowly release. The pilot should remain lit. If it remains lit, press in and turn the valve control knob to the "on" position. The on/off wall or remote control switch should now light your fireplace. If the pilot doesn't ignite, turn off gas supply valve, wait about 5 minutes and try it again.
