USB and PS/2 Ports Shut off - PC won't wake up

I leave my PC on all the time. Mouse USB, Printer USB, Keyboard PS/2. Sometimes will go for 2 or 3 days with no wake-up problem sometimes 1/2 a day. Deleted and reinstalled USB root hubs. etc. Tried plugging in a PS/2 mouse when USB not responding. Doesn/t work.
Win XP SP-3, AMD Athlon XP 1800, 2 GB Ram

There are 4 possible ways in my awareness...
Method 1: Resynchronize your device with the receiver To resynchronize the mouse or the keyboard with the receiver, follow these steps. Note When you synchronize the mouse or the keyboard with the receiver, put the device near the receiver and put any other wireless keyboards and mouse at least 6 feet away.
  1. Press the button on the receiver, and then verify that the light on the receiver starts to blink.

    Note Some newer Microsoft devices are permanently bound to their receiver and cannot be reset. If your device does not have a button, skip to Method 2.
  2. If a dialog box appears on the screen in several seconds, follow the instructions that appear on the screen. Otherwise, go to the next step.
  3. Press and release the Connect Channel button on the bottom of the mouse or the keyboard.
  4. Check the green light on the receiver. A steady green light means the synchronization was successful. If the problem persists, try steps 1 through 4 again.
  5. For the Wireless Notebook mouse: This issue can occur if the micro-switch on the bottom of the mouse is not released. Use a pin or a pen to try to release the button if it is depressed.

Try to keep such items away from the keyboard, and check the behavior of the keyboard.

Do not put the mouse or the receiver near any electrical devices, especially transmitters such as cordless or cellular telephones or other wireless mouse devices or receivers. A distance of at least 8 to 12 inches is recommended. Do not put the mouse or the receiver on metallic surfaces or objects, especially long metallic rails or cables. We recommend that you keep the mouse and the keyboard a minimum of 3 feet from metallic objects.

Mouse Doesn't Work in PS/2 port


CHECK BIOS TO MAKE SURE IT DID NOT TURN ITSELF OFF WHEN YOU PLUGGED IT INTO THE USB.BIOS MAY HAVE TURNED IT OFF TO PREVENT A CONFLICT.RICHARDM69

Keyboard want light up but mouse works


The buttons on the top (silver) are linked to your "Favorites" folder in Internet Explorer.

The buttons to the right of that are used for your media player (To skip tracks and adjust volumes, play pause etc)

The buttons on the left (from top to bottom) are:

1) My documents folder will open
2) MSN or Windows Live! Messenger will open
3) Your E-Mail will open (whatever your default email program is)
4) Calculator Opens
5) Windows Update will open

Now... In order for these you HAVE to have the drivers installed. If you didn't get a CD with your keyboard, you can download the drivers directly from Microsoft here:

Just fill in the drop-downs and press "Go", it should show you a link the the exact driver you need to install. Once it's been installed you can set up your favorites with the software that it installs.

If the pressurized air canister is not available, blow dry air on the lenses by using your mouth one or two times. 6. Check to see whether the mouse functions correctly. 7. If these steps do not resolve the problem, use a cotton bud to clean the lens without scratching it.

Check your BIOS settings, sounds like it may be an issue there. If nothing there, could be a problem with the MB.

Probem with Asus P5W DH waking back up


Do you have a modem plugged into phone line - is a signal on phone line causing it (unplug phone line cable to try that).
Could be faulty power switch on front of computer where the contacts are only a hairs breadth apart and the slightest movement/vibration causes it to contact (try this by disconnecting those two wires from the motherboard

I'd try disconnectng any communication cables from the computer first. That would be LAN and Modem cables. If it still restarts, disconnect the keyboard and power down the PC. If it still restarts, then power down again before it is fully off, remove the mouse. If it still does it get a priest to do an exorcism
