Re: Harman Kardon go + play problem
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".
Initially, pls try cleaning the battery terminals. In some instances, it may be necessary to scrape them to remove corrosion. Still there are times they may have to be bent or stretched to ensure that they provide more pressure to the batteries. Alternately, pls try to confirm that the AC adapter is working by checking for the presence of voltage on the plug/connector with the use of a voltmeter.
Should the above not address your concern, then it is most likely that the problem is internal electronics and the unit is simply going into protective mode. You then have a choice of performing a DIY (do-it-yourself) or seeking the services of a qualified professional.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
Often the advanced energy management circuit cuts out when on battery power and no music is present.
1. Remove batteries run on AC
2. does unit still work?
3. If so plug in Ipod normally, turn HK unit volume down then the ipod volume way up.
4 if problem not solved try using 1/8 inch aux. jack, high volume on IPOD low volume on HK.
IN general contol the volume from the HK unit. leave the ipod loud.

I had the older Harman Kardon Go Play,it has 10 visible Allen type screws,2 big screws for the battery cover, and one Allen type at the center of the battery compartment..i hope they have the same fasteners as your Micro..after removing the fasteners just carefully pry them apart and see the beauty inside..good luck
If you bought this you this new, take it right back to the place of purchase, you still must have warranty and I would use it asp other wise you will be stuck with a unit that will get worse. This is clearly a manufacture defect.
If I understand you correctly the Harman Kardon does not supply the output video and usb ports. Since this is a go and play they pobably felt it was not needed. to impliment these changes would require a complete design change.
I had the same problem with my unit (The Harmon Kardon Play & Go was turning off after 10 minutes. It was very frustrating.). It ended up that my auxiliary input jack was not plugged in all the way, and only one channel was being played. Apparently, the unit detects whether or not sound is being played, and it turns off after a certain amount of time if no sound is detected. Also, apparently, that detection circuitry is only on one channel -- not both. So if you don't have the input wire plugged in all the way, the unit does not detect sound properly.
To solve the problem, make sure that the input wire is plugged in ALL the way. :)
Other than this little issue, this unit is fantastic! Highly recommended.

the ipod of the 4th generation does only charge in USB mode and the Harman & kardon speaker only supports I link charge mode(fire wire 1394) so i bought an awsome sounding machine wich does not charge my ipod nano.
however i must say that i have a solution, when you put the USB cable in the back of the H&K, you can charge the nano with a charging device of an ipod.
I just had this exact problem. I'm using an ipod mini. I solved it by docking the ipod firmly at the angle the dock is at and have the ipod at an angle, not flat. I put the plastic and rubber adapter for the mini as instructed and also placed the rubber adapter for the nano upside down to keep the ipod propped at an angle. (Also can use something similar to keep ipod propped up at an angle) Took a while when I first used to figure out how the dock worked. The dock is a little weird how it is hinged to go from an angle to flat. Nothing in the instructions about this. By putting the ipod flat it would still have a connection to charge and play but the power shuts off every 10 minutes. I spent a whole night having it shut off every 10 minutes. This drives me crazy when systems have features like that which always seems to cause more problems (just my humble opinion) By having the ipod at an angle I'm currently just now having it run an hour and 20 minutes and counting with no shut offs,(fingers crossed) but so far so good. Saw on the internet that if the ipod is not connected firmly the system has an auto shut down. I think the ipod's weight propped at an angle keeps the connection firm. Also some said they want to see the ipod display, there you go!!!! This seems to be working so far for me, may be worth a try...I was about to return mine but I love the sound so I'm keeping mine now!!!! Works fine. Happy camper again. Please reply if this works for anyone it worked for me.
