What is the SD MS/Pro MMC XD slot used for?

This is where you would take the sd or xd card out of your digital camera and place it in the slot to download the pictures from the camera to the computer.

Another way of getting pictures from the camera to the computer is that most cameras come with a cable that connects to the camera and the other end to one of the usb ports on the computer. Once you have the cable connected turn the camera on and the computer will recognize the camera as a device. You can then search the camera folders for the pictures you want to put on the computer. This way you don't have to take the sd or xd card out of the camera.

Device is detected but i can not open it. When i double click on that it gives message as "Please insert device"

Most 5 in 1 media card readers act like that, you must insert a media card, either SD, Micro SD, MS, MMC, XD or M2 if supported, in order to open it. You can try with your digital camera SD card.

The SD card reader built in to the front of my HP Pavilion a630n Desktop is not recognizing that there is a card in the port at all whatsoever. i know for a fact it's not the card so perhaps there is a...

Check the driver, see if it is working probraly, and may need to be reinstall or update... also check to see if your sd card would work on another machine. If it does, then it is not your card...sometimes windows won't reconize it until it's formated, but then in this case, it should reconize it, but you wouldn't be able to open it only. So i'm sure it's your driver, or the media card device is damaged. See if you notebook reconize the hardware in device manager

Sd-ms memory card port

Could be, or maybe you do not have the proper driver installed. Look in My Computer > System > Device Manager, and see if it is even showing.

If that device is showing, and does not have an ! or ? in yellow over it, your card is not good.
