Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Total memory What is the max quantity of RAM usable for this model? The board has 4 slots--alternate green and purple. Both green are occupied with 2-Siemens 256 Mb PC3200 boards. Will two 1 Gb boards work in this machine? Are there any web sites for this information? Thanks, Tom

With out the model number of your computer. i would guess that by you having 4 slots you would need 4 (512mb) memory sticks that would give you a total of 2gb of ram. which is probably your max. also pretty sure you have to have the same size in each slot. you cant mix 1gb then 512mb it will not work.

Memory error test on Gateway 509ge

Thi sis not a problem ..but it is a common issue ..If it says it has 4 G and 3 of them usable ..it means this is either the supported or the maximum needed for your system ..In case you install something it will use the rest for it if needed.Usually there can be another thing too ..If you have an on-board video card ..check the settings in bios cause it may be transferred for the video function ..(the rest of the memory , this is happening when you default the bios ..and it has enough memory to get it from .)
Anyway ..like I said ..even if it is the max allowed ..it may not be the maximum supported..many boards does not supports the maximum on slots ..Older versions even made boot issues on the max ram was installed .
try to take a look in bios settings (advanced settings ) ..and under the on board vga ..see the amount of ram memory allocated , and if you want that memory ..change it ..If you only wanted to know why ..and you are satisfied with 3 G ..and the rest to function for the video card ..just let it be ..
I also suggest to reinstall the operation system if you upgraded memory ..it will assure the best functionality ..

Some motherboards are only upgradable to their allotted amount that board may only handle up to 2 gigs of RAM which is a shame. But this is the way it is. That is why I always check the board memory capacity before I buy computer boards or RAM for them. The beeps indicate error on the slots for the RAM that is why you can start up when you remove ram one at a time and replace. So use the allotted amount of RAM for that board specification or get another mother board that can handle more than 2 gigs of RAM. Sorry for the loss. Thanks for using FixYa! John

T2742 Desktop eMacine I want to upgrade the RAM from 256 MB to 1 GB. Can I replace the single 256 MB memory board with a single 1 GB memory board? Or, should I use two 512 MB memory boards?

Maximum Total Amount is 1GB.

EACH ram slot's Maximum Amount is 512MB.

Note* If you only install one ram memory module, make sure it goes into Slot 1.

(On the motherboard it may have DIMM 1, printed next to the slot)

Slot one is closest to the Processor. The processor reads ram memory that is in Slot 1, first.

Help my pc is not detecting the correct amount of ram installed

Okay, first things first. IF the memory you installed is 1024 and you are using the on board video and it is 512 MB, you will only have 512 MB usable memory. This is because the on board video uses the installed memory to function. What ever the video memory is, subtract that form the total memory. If this is not the case, try re-seating the memory. If the numbers still do not add up then if there are four memory slots, make sure the memory is installed in the same color slots. Most desktops with 4 memory slots have two slots one color and the other two another color. Make sure both memory sticks are installed in the same color.

My evo is running slow, i was thinking of upgrading the ram. what type of ram and what is the max?

Hi,
mine was running slow too. Like I'd turn it on and go grub some coffee, than make some toast and then after It'd bring the windows screen on.
If that's the case I suggest to try different hard drive, but my guess it's motherboard issue:
Here is memory information for EVO D51. Please let me know what model you have, so I can be more specific

Total newbie here - how do I add more memory to my DELL Dimension 2300? I have my cpu open and i am replacing my fan also.

Well your Dell 2300 has a total max. memory of 1 GB from both slot.
If you already have (2) 512MB RAM in the slot then thats the max it can handle.

Dell 2300 only has 2 memory slots. Memory comes in 1- 128MB, 256MB and 512MB PC-133 DIMM modules. So if you want to max it out get (2) 512 MB PC-133 DIMM.

Note:

You must wear a static strap or ground yourself first on the computer chassis before you touch any thing inside your computer
to discharge any static electricity

Memory upgrade

Add 1GB ram modules in slots 3 and 4 for a total of 2.5 GB RAM. $98.00 plus tax not bad.
