Question about Computers & Internet

Morning! I have a SONY VGN-N110G pc. I purchased it on E-Bay and have been using it daily for months with no problem. All of a sudden I'm getting an error message that says: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM corrupt or missing! The pc did not come with any disks! I did try F8 and then "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION"

I was just beginning to draft my response to your problem prior to my previous "Clarification Request" post. Here's a primer snippet related to your problem:

SYSTEM_DRIVE (typically C:)\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is a file ("SYSTEM", with no extension) located where indicated. It is the actual SYSTEM hive of your Windows registry. It is essential for successful booting (let alone operation) of your Windows operating system.

Also, just for the sake of clarity: You have already tried Windows boot screen "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION" option AND got no success?

Repair is certainly a viable option. However, please don't do anything until you answer these three questions:

    1. Are you Windows XP or Vista?

    2. Do you have your Windows installation disk?

    3. Did you have "Windows Restore" turned on, with at least one restore point captured, before your boot failure?

If the answer to 2 and 3 is "yes", please post again with these answers as there's a recovery method available to you that will allow you to restore your PC to a point as current as your last restore point.

    BENEFITS:

    1. No need to go thru the drudgery and insecurity of re-patching Windows.

    2. MUCH later and current Windows registry values associated with all your installed applications.

Repair it using your Bootable Operating System installer. With it, it will search for your previous windows installation. You have there options whether you will install a fresh copy of your windows or Repair it. Choose Repair.

Hi I need to restore my Vaio VGN N325E to factory settings. I do not have the Recovery disks.

In that case you will have to purchase the version of OS you have on the laptop and use that to re format and load a new system.

SONY VAIO VGN-CR35G/R purchased on 27 April 2008, DVD is not working

Most likely the dive is just Dead on Arrival, it happens from time to time.

Just call Sony and they will send over a technician and a new drive.
