Question about Audio Cards

No sound! Just weeks ago, I had to re-install windows xp to my compaq presario sr1603wm computer. After doing this, I discovered not only the windows program I have now is an older version than what I originally had , but I have all of the appropriate players to play things on the internet however I have no sound! I guess my thing is when I try to troubleshoot the problem, Windows says i have no sound card or appropriate mixer device so therefore, the volume control option is not available. It reconizes the hardware I have or need but it just won't start.I've tried everything from unstalling to reinstalling the hardware to even trying to look for sound cards all together. Any possible suggestions on what to do about this? my pc stopped producing sound.i tried to reinstall the driver but it could not work.my sound device is Intel Intel(R) 82801BA/BAM AC '97 Audio Controller. the volume mixer menu went away.,when i try playing anyting it reports an error(no mixer devices found).my system summary is: operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_qfe.080423-1303) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Compaq System Model: EVO BIOS: 686Y2 v2.06 Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00GHz Memory: 256MB RAM Page File: 189MB used, 429MB available Windows Dir: C:WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.5512 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. Ok, is your sound card an onboard (included with *********** board) or not. If it is not onboard sound card, i suggest to remove it from the motherboard and then clean the contacts with pencil eraser (rubber) use the eraser to remove the carbon and dust that accumulated in the sound card contacts. reinstall it and reintall back the driver. it should work by then. Or if you have an onboard sound device try to go to the CMOS setup of the motherboard and make sure that the onboard sound device is enabled in CMOS.

Did you get the driver from HP? Here is a link to install (or download) the driver for your system. It may be beneficial to download it to your computer in case you need it again.

Need an audio driver 4 windows 7

first i would recommend unplugging all audio devices, rebooting, then plugging them back in.

If that doesn't work then here is a link to the drivers for it: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=396420&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=385242&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228#113165

the drivers are for XP but on my compaq presario it still worked on windows 7.

If you’ve installed Windows XP on Compaq Presario F700 or Presario F730 follow this simple step:

a. Install Microsoft UAA

then reboot your computers

b. then install Conenxant Audio Sound Driver

If you re-installed Windows XP and you had Windows XP you did not install an older version - you just need Windows updates and most likely the sound card driver. Windows Update may eventually provide a driver, but I'd check the HP Website (HP owns Compaq) for drivers.

SOUND DRIVER

Compaq does not provide XP drivers for your Presario notebook. However, HP uses the same soundcard on several notebooks (HP owns Compaq), and they do provide XP drivers, so here is the link:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-45570-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

Download it, and install it, and you should be fine. You may need network and video drivers as well. If so, let me know.

Cheers
Nick
