Hi, Dell Inspiron 1501, running XP home 2004. USB Bluetooth dongle sets off usual search for software by laptop, but it can't find any. Dongle doesn't come with software. Have tried re-booting sevral times but problem remains.
Re: Laptop can't find Bluetooth software for dongle
Gougher01, Thanks for following up with me. It's taken a while, but after 10 mins of searching in the usual XP 'Trying to locate software' from the internet, it has found and installed the necessary drivers and the dongle indicates its ready for use. Have yet to test it. Key msg for outers is to give the net search time as nothing happens for at least 10 mins of the search, so you can be tempted to give up, as I did on first attempt. Thanks. Trevor (Bluetooth dongle has 'Bluetooth' as its TM, otherwise I' not clear as to manufacturer as no docs came with it.)

are you talking about the inbuilt bluetooth or any usb bluetooth dongle.if it is inbuilt one then check if you have bluetooth chip installed in it! contact dell care, give your service tag number, they will say it.
It is very likely that the Dell operator was right and the bluetooth option is not installed on your system. You will have to buy a USB bluetooth dongle or adapter. click on control panel click on bluetooth devices if its there, is there anything listed as available? also in control panel click on system > device manager and see if any bluetooth devices are listed there. If not you don't have the option built in to your laptop
There is No Internal Bluetooth Option On This Model.
If you want Bluetooth, You,ll have to purchase A seperate Bluetooth Dongle.
There Is A Wifi Built In. ( To enable This you,d Press fn and F2 On The Keyboard )
Hope This helps.
I looked over the system configurations for the Inspiron 1501, and it doesn't have Bluetooth capabilities built into it. The 1520 series does, but not the 1501. The only way you're going to be able to add Bluetooth technology is to purchase a Bluetooth usb adapter. Here's a link to the 1501 manuals if you would like to look over them.
