Asus Eee Pc 900A Linux

My Computer was working perfectly well. I had just turned it off and then I decided to turn it on again. But when I turned it on it says Turning Computer on then it goes to a black screen with a white blinking typing line then the screen turns dark blue then black again. I do not have any idea what is going on.

It says "system booting up," then cuts to a black screen with a blinking cursor. The "X" shows up in the middle of the screen, which shows that it's about to load the UI, and then it blacks out and starts all over again.

It worked right out of the box, I installed the updates, and then when I went to reboot this happened.

I bought the thing literally half an hour ago. AHH!

The same thing just happened to me- my ASUS with Linux was working great when I turned it off- when I went to turn it back on about 1 hour later, all I got was the start up screen that went to black with the white cursor in the top left corner blinking, and an X that would pop up in the middle- while the screen alternated between black and blue- has anyone figured this out yet? Is this something that requires an "expert"?

I just bought the 900A and did all the updates and it is after I restarted the computer that it started to do this. I assume it is one of the updates that is messing up Xandros...

Ouch, I was thinking about buying this one too. I'm sorry your first experiences with linux are negative. Don't give up on linux though. I can help you all if you work with me. I think joann gave me an idea. It sounds like from joann's description that x windows is not loading. When xwindows loads, it shows an x in the middle of the screen. I'm not sure what kind of update Asus is up to but that this sounds like something Asus screwed up on. My first suggestion to all of you since it seems like all of your computer are under warranty is to call Asus and get on their **** about this problem. They owe it to you to get your comptuers fixed. Get the support you already paid for first and then come back here if they try to give you the run around. I have also had problems with Asus. I have the 2gig surf and they didn't really keep up with linux updates for that too well either. I'm not sure I'm going to buy from Asus again after hearing about this. Don't give up on linux though. I'll can help you all if you just write to me. I'll be your linux inside guy.

  1. Turn off your computer
  2. Turn it on and immediately begin rapidly pressing F2 by itself
  3. Go to the Advanced tab by pressing the right arrow key once
  4. Go to onboard devices configuration by pressing the down arrow key once, then pressing Enter
  5. Go all the way down to Onboard WLAN by holding down the down arrow key until it is selected
  6. Press the minus key (-)
  7. Press F10
  8. Press Enter when it asks you to save configuration changes
If that still doesn't work, make sure you have the drivers you need from here:

I need wirless xp drivers for my asus eeepc 900a , i try to download it from asus official site but my wirless still not working , in the hardware list it give me unknown device . N.B: it was a linux...

Does your netbook have an ethernet port? If so, that might be the way to get your downloads. Otherwise, your retailer may (should) do it for you. Depending on how you changed your OSs, you may be able to revert to the linux, save/back-up your drivers to a flash drive or external drive and reinstall after returning to XP. Good luck.

Asus eee pc 900a wireless connection not working

I've experienced the same problem with my ASUS netbook. Uninstall the wireless hard - remove hardware in control panel, reboot the machine and allow it to auto find the adapter again. This should correct it. If there are still problems verify that you have the most current driver for the wireless adapter, either from Asus, or the wireless adapter chipset manufacturer (i.e. Intel, broadcomm, etc.)

Same thing here

There is nothing you can do with stuck key/s, the keyboard needs to be replaced.
Replacement keyboards are available from stores on the Internet (not very expensive), I purchased keyboards from Yall Store WEB site - use this link :-

Asus EEE PC 900A Linux- boot problem after downloading updates

Consider downloading a specific release of Ubuntu; eeebuntu. Download the ISO and then conenct an external DVD device to it, during the BIOS screen, choose the ESC button and boot from the external device.
This Ubuntu-specific group offers three kinds of ISO's (simple, super basic, and a loaded release), all of which allow all parts to work out of the box:

If this does not work, check the informal eeepc forums

Must be common problem. Linux is the operating system

yes you just lost linux, it needs re-doing but with an external CD ROM drive unless it has a partition
for recovery in which either F10 key will do it or another key check the manual for RECOVERY of operating system its not a big problme but it takes few hours to solve
