yeah mines' the 660 or so powered one with several eye pieces.. apparently if there is any light and if ur looking through a window it screws it up adn yes I took the damned cap off LOL man people assume the dumbest conclusions. but anyway I assume u had the telescope cap off and all don't worry.. and mine looks just like the pic below. then again there were only a couple stars showing that night so probably some haze.. I'm not even sure how to use the viewfinder scope. but anyway it seems to be assembled exactly right cacuse all the parts fit fine. the manual was so generic it was **** for help.. although the text barely made sense..

One thing I did do is order an 18mm eyepeice on Ebay. The other was take it outside. Between the new eyepeice and get both the scope lens and my eyes acclamated to the darkness, it was much easier to use.

Your small telescope will never get much over 100 power-- sorry. So only use the lowest magnification eyepieces (those have the LARGEST number printed on them)-- try for the moon first-- and practice focusing the telescope.

Has to be a cloudless mistless fogless night.. I noticed that there were only a few stars out early one night then later on it became this weird kinda black almost jet black... Not one cloud but this weird barely noticeable haze and not one freakin star in sight.. so that could be why you can't find any. just keep trying to look really or check to see if ur lenses are crooked inside or something. I noticed one of mine looked hastily assembled.. it was abit crooked inside where the ring held the actual lens part in but the lens somehow still worked!! lucky me

S EYEPEICE SUITABLE FOR A TASCO 280 TELESCOPE

Can't give you a direct answer. You will have to measure the diameter of your existing eyepiece. If it is 1.25 inch diameter, then it will be fine (and far superior to the stock eyepieces).
If your eyepiece is .965 diameter, you will need to but a .965 to 1.25 adapter, or, Antares makes a fine .965 plossl series.

Download a manual that is similar to your telescope. They all assemble just about the same way.

Difficult to find manuals for small telescopes. However Meade maintains a web site for all of their telescopes. Look under the REFRACTOR or REFLECTOR headings for a manual similar to your telescope. They all go together about the same.

Just came into a used tasco 302048 . Everything is upside down!!!

the scope is made for both terrestrial viewing and astronomical. In order to see terrestrially upright, you need an inverting STAR DIAGONAL. The eyepiece will do nothing for inverting the image. you might have 2 diagonals in the kit that came wih the scope. the diagonal is the part that fits into the scope. then you place the eyepiece in the diagonal. if you have 2 diagonals , one is a 90 degree angle,(astronomical) and one is a 45 degree angle, (terrestrial). the eyepieces change the magnification of the image. the bigger the number (9mm, 20mm, 26mm,) the smaller the image. the smaller the number , the bigger the image gets. the number is inverse of the image. Hope this helps.

Missing parts ? re Tasco 302048

Probably -- the 4mm gives too much magnification for you telescope-- difficult to focus or find thing in the sky-- you should also have had an eyepiece somewhere between 17mm and 24mm for lower power viewing.
