I have just bought a second hand maytag side by side fridge. Model number GC2225GEKB. It keeps cold in both fridge and freezer but when l change the temperature settings, water leaks from back left hand side. l have taken the back off and noticed the copper pipe going from compressor to freezer is iced up and the compressor is really hot to touch. Is this normal? l have a 28 day warranty with it so l want to make sure its working properly or should l return? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If it is clecking it will need to be tested. Feel the top of the compressor to see how hot. Can you keep hand on top of compressor? Too hot to keep hand there? What is the model number of your refrigerator? Thanks Sea Breeze
most likely the start device is bad, look at the left wall inside the fridge near the cieling, you should see a model number, call your parts store, give them the model number on the machine, there is other letters after the g and tell them you need a start device.unplug the machine, until you get the part so you don't damage the compressor,it's not cooling anyway and thhe freezer feeds cold air to the fridge side,a fan blows cold air from freezer to fridge so next time if the freezer has a problem the fridge side is gonna have a problem too, unclip the metal clip and slide the start device off, read the instructions and it will tell you how to install the new device
It's possible that the Adaptive Defrost Control part number 61005988 has your compressor shut down. It is also possible the temperature control is defective. Jumping the 2 wires behind the control will answer that. And its also possible that the start capacitor, start relay and overload has failed on the compressor. I would like you to unplug and examine the ADC and also need to pull away from wall and remove the cover over the compressor so you can feel the top of compressor. Is it warm, cool or too hot to keep your hand there? Sea Breeze
no check the air thats being blown by the fan in the freezer can you feel any cold air and i mean cold?
if not go to the back of the fridge
taKE Off the bottom panel should have like 6 to 10 screws
see if the fan in the back is working
see how hot the compressor(the big black thing next to the fan, sorry some people dont know what it is) see if its hot if it is very very hot like burn your hand hot you can try to cool it down with some paper towels and cold water but unplugg the fridge
if its warm not so hot or cold
than you need to get a 3 in 1 kit
your compressor is not turning on because the starter relay is not good and its not helping the fridge turn on
the relay is very very easy to install
once you get it youll have to take off the black plasticon the right or front side of the compressor there are two plastic parts that are on the compressor under the big black part ( you might not have the black plastic if not just do this step) take the plastic parts that have the wires attached to it
put the kit on on the kit there are three wires with metal little parts at the tips fallow the directions and place them on the right part of the compressor
there are three metal sticks about less than an inc big and you have to put the three wires on each one FALLOW THE PICTURE black on the middle on and depending if you middle on is on the top or bottom would depend where you put what color wire
if you middle one is at the top put white wire on the left and red on the right and if you middle one is in the bottom black goes on it and white on the right and red on the left but like i said fallow the directions
than you have to strip the other two wires that are left on the kit
than take the two wires that you took off with the plastic parts that were on the compressor
once you cut them strip the wires and just connect them to the two left over ones from the kit
doesnt matter which one goes where
sorry for the long reply
but this should help
if you do the 3 in 1 kit and the compressor turns on and after a while like an hour it doesnt feel cool air at all than you have a freeon leak which mean new fridge
the 3 in 1 costs like 20 dollars
good luck keep me upadated
sounds like the start relay on the compressor is bad. take the model number and make to the parts hopuse and have them get you the start relay for your refrigerator. the relay is on the compressor underneith the black cover on the side of the compressor. shut off power and take a screw driver and remove the clip that holds the cover on and you will see the relay. good luck and thanmks for using FixYa
I'm dealing with the same problem right now with the same refrigerator. The cold water tank (for the front dispenser) has a hole in it that leaks every time someone dispenses water from the front door. You will find the water tank behind the top slide-out drawer in the fridge. The leaked water flows down one of the water tubes through a hole in the bottom of the fridge and onto the floor. I'll bet you have the same problem. Good Luck.
This sounds like you have a Maytag Ice2O. You need to find out if that cound is a relay/overoad failure on the compressor or the compressor going out. I can say from experience that some of those have a tecumsie comprossor in them and the do tend to fail. If you hear a loud electrical humming sound coming from the compressor and your getting a warm up then you need to record this sound on some kind of sound recorder and call a Whirlpool warrenty certified tech. out to look at it if it's less than 5 years old from perchase date then Whirlpool will pick up the part and labor bill of a compressor installation also check your owners manual for warrenty details. Hit me up let me know.
