I have just bought a second hand maytag side by side fridge. Model number GC2225GEKB. It keeps cold in both fridge and freezer but when l change the temperature settings, water leaks from back left hand side. l have taken the back off and noticed the copper pipe going from compressor to freezer is iced up and the compressor is really hot to touch. Is this normal? l have a 28 day warranty with it so l want to make sure its working properly or should l return? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If it is clecking it will need to be tested. Feel the top of the compressor to see how hot. Can you keep hand on top of compressor? Too hot to keep hand there? What is the model number of your refrigerator? Thanks Sea Breeze
most likely the start device is bad, look at the left wall inside the fridge near the cieling, you should see a model number, call your parts store, give them the model number on the machine, there is other letters after the g and tell them you need a start device.unplug the machine, until you get the part so you don't damage the compressor,it's not cooling anyway and thhe freezer feeds cold air to the fridge side,a fan blows cold air from freezer to fridge so next time if the freezer has a problem the fridge side is gonna have a problem too, unclip the metal clip and slide the start device off, read the instructions and it will tell you how to install the new device
It's possible that the Adaptive Defrost Control part number 61005988 has your compressor shut down. It is also possible the temperature control is defective. Jumping the 2 wires behind the control will answer that. And its also possible that the start capacitor, start relay and overload has failed on the compressor. I would like you to unplug and examine the ADC and also need to pull away from wall and remove the cover over the compressor so you can feel the top of compressor. Is it warm, cool or too hot to keep your hand there? Sea Breeze
there is another fan at the bottom, rear, of the refigerator. remove the bootom panel and look at the cooling fins to make sure they are not bent into the fan blades. Caefully bend the fins away from the fan. this should improve the cooling of the refrigerator and get rid of the hot spot on the rail between the refrigerator and freezer.
sounds like the start relay on the compressor is bad. take the model number and make to the parts hopuse and have them get you the start relay for your refrigerator. the relay is on the compressor underneith the black cover on the side of the compressor. shut off power and take a screw driver and remove the clip that holds the cover on and you will see the relay. good luck and thanmks for using FixYa
I'm dealing with the same problem right now with the same refrigerator. The cold water tank (for the front dispenser) has a hole in it that leaks every time someone dispenses water from the front door. You will find the water tank behind the top slide-out drawer in the fridge. The leaked water flows down one of the water tubes through a hole in the bottom of the fridge and onto the floor. I'll bet you have the same problem. Good Luck.
This sounds like you have a Maytag Ice2O. You need to find out if that cound is a relay/overoad failure on the compressor or the compressor going out. I can say from experience that some of those have a tecumsie comprossor in them and the do tend to fail. If you hear a loud electrical humming sound coming from the compressor and your getting a warm up then you need to record this sound on some kind of sound recorder and call a Whirlpool warrenty certified tech. out to look at it if it's less than 5 years old from perchase date then Whirlpool will pick up the part and labor bill of a compressor installation also check your owners manual for warrenty details. Hit me up let me know.
