Yes. you can try that. but if the option does not work, even after a hard reset, you might have to take it to a repair shop. you Speaker may be busted.

Hi, Switch off, Remove the battery. leveave it for a minute. Insert the battery and switch on.
Check the speaker volume.
If the speaker still doesnt work, may be its defective.
or try reinstalling the software. It should have come with your CD.

Try to hard reset ...

Hold down the two soft-keys (the ones below the screen) and while you have them held down you poke the reset button with your stylus. You'll then see a message on the screen saying 'press R to reset, X to exit'. Pressing the R key on the keyboard will hard-reset the device. It'll now take a few minutes to reboot and load all of the operator customisation etc.
This procedure will hard reset the HTC TyTN

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Cannot hear caller's voice

Hi,
You have told that you can hear well only if you use your headphone or loudspeaker. From this it is obvious that there is no problem with your network but with the earpiece speaker present in your device. So replacing it under warranty is a way to solve this. moreover its only 2 months and so your device still covered under warranty.

I would go to the AT&T support site or HTC. from there you can download the firmware update file wich can try to recover the unit for you. from the sounds of it, it may be stuck in bootloader mode. either way, its likely you will loose your data and programs.

while in the call switch to speakerphone
use a speaker phone for about 15 seconds
