The problem with these units is the filter capacitors in the power supply. They should be removed and replaced with 25 v.dc capacitors...total cost for the capacitors £5. If you don't fancy doing the repair your self, perhaps you know of a good friend who can use a soldering iron!

The capacitors are 2200 micro farads radial mounting, 680 and 1200, all should be at least 25v dc working for a reliable recorder. The existing ones are prone to "leaking" and should never have been used...shame on you JVC!

Jvc dvd vhs burner dr-mv1s and dr-m10 loading continues to flash

if you have a jvc dvd vhs burner dr-mv1s or the dr-m10 with the loading that continues to flash with no control of the unit at all there is the first step to take witch is a master or hard reset. done by holding the stop and power buttons at the same time for 10 or more seconds till it powers of then on again.

if this does not work or has no reaction to the unit at all them repairs will have to be made.

i have scowered the internet for fixes for this issue and have found a few interesting things but nothing concrete at all. but lead me in the correct area of the issue. although jvc was fixing these for free at one time they are no longer servicing them under their "free fix"

the problem with the unit is the power supply and although i found that easily on the web. i could not find what the exact problem was untill i did my own diagnostic testing and found that capasitor c5207 on the power supply board was bad and buldging/leaking. it is a 1500uf 6.5v @85 degrees witch i used a 105degree due to the temp and relating the issue with a bad design flaw. so use the higher temp rating one to insure long lasting use.

don't forget to preform the master/hard reset previously mentioned above and you will be back up and running in no time.

good luck......

Check power supply capacitors.
Check capacitors for leakage or swelling.
Check voltages on drives +5 and +12
I can't tell you whether hard drive is faulty or not.

DVD/Video recorder blinking

This is an issue for this machine. It happened to me, and after some internet research, I found that JVC acknowleged it (on their web site). The unit was still under warranty, and JVC had me ship it to them for repair. It was fixed... for about a year. It started doing the same thing recently. I only had enough time to discover that I hadn't purchased any extended warranty, then the thing quit altogether. Wouldn't even power up, wouldn't eject the tape or DVD that were inside. I gave up, and took the case off to recover the tape and DVD. What I found inside was what looked like any DVD or CD drive from any computer. Since I had a case for an external IDE drive, I hooked it up to my Mac using that drive. Good news! Not only did it eject my DVD when I pushed the button, I found that my Mac with OS X Tiger recognized the drive! With absolutely NO software installation (not even a driver), My Mac now burns DVDs beautifully on that drive using Toast. At least I salvaged something really good from that piece of junk sold by JVC.
